You can stay a wage slave, it doesn't matter to me what you do.

A good mentor CAN help you avoid critical mistakes in your business.

There is a reason why many businesses fail and it's some that CAN be fixed.

I'm not going to let other peoples' failure keep me from reaching my dreams or goals.

Business and investing is the way I'm going to go, with or without others' encouragement.

I refuse to let fear keep me from doing what I want to do.
It's not about being a wage slave, it's about having the right combination of ideas, technologies, business models that will maximise your chances of success.

Don't get me wrong mate but...do you have world-class IP (intellectual property)? Do you have a few million dollars secured in seed funding? Do you have Wall Street advisors or Silicon Valley consultants? Do you have the next big thing in your mind and/or hands? You can be as optimistic as you want to be and that won't hurt at all, but you have to know that your chances or having a business that will break even, let alone be sustainable, let alone grow and create that kind of profit bonanza that will allow you to disconnect from the labouring world...those chances are slim. The odds are overwhelmingly against you. Full stop.

Wise advice and help can steer a business in a better direction, making it more successful and profitable than it would have otherwise been. Yet, that alone is not enough to beat the odds.

By the way, you say you have nothing else to learn on how to make money. Would you mind explaining exactly what your business and money-making ideas are about? I am curious.
I have a friend that is a serial entrepreneur. When I first met him, he already developed a product and received an investment from venture capitalists. Ultimately, that product failed.

In the past few months, he created a new business without money from venture capitalists. He barely had any start-up money at all. Last month, he made about as much as money as I make in 6 months. Of course, he hasn't completely succeeded yet, but he's well on his way.

So it can be done for sure.

Also, my friend is nothing more than a smart guy with a good work ethic that has trained himself to think outside of the box (something that I'm sure all of us here are familiar with). In my opinion, any person on HA is smart enough and resourceful to do this.

A lack of funding is NO excuse not to get started.

You can get a business advisor/mentor/coach to help you write a winning business plan to get funding from an Angel or Venture Capitalist.

Are you having a hard time coming up with business ideas???

Get a business advisor/mentor/coach to help you brainstorm winning business ideas.

NO EXCUSES!!!

YOU have to take responsibility and hold YOURSELF accountable for your mistakes and failings.

Someone mentioned that their brother works 70-80 hours per week.

He shouldn't be working that hard. He should be outsourcing a lot of his tasks to VIRTUAL ASSISTANTS.

In business you will only succeed if you work SMARTER, not HARDER.

At McDonalds, who works the hardest? The minimum wage employees or the CEOs?

The employees, of course!

To answer publicdude's question. I am writing business plans and submitting them to Angel Investors and I'm interesting in commercial real estate such as multi-family apartment buildings and retail/strip malls.

I'm not going to reveal what businesses I want to start.

I don't have the option of saying what I can't or don't want to do, it's not a part of my make up and I wasn't raised that way.

If there's anything that I am scared of or fear, then I had better get over it real soon.

I'm ALWAYS reading and reading and reading books. I'm ALWAYS learning.

You can NEVER learn enough.

You should NEVER be satisfied with your current level of knowledge.

You do sound pretty motivated. Whatever you're up to, you certainly seem to have the right kind of spirit and drive. Good luck!

He works around 70-80 hours per week and has more work that he could ever take on. His biggest problem now is that he can't find good employees. He'd rather turn down work than hire employees that are lousy. He's had to fire many of them for drug use. He's had to fire many of them for not taking/passing the required written tests for certification(which my brother pays for). Since he doesn't want to work more than 70-80 hours per week and he can't find enough good employees, he has purposely stopped growth where it is at currently. If the government becomes any more restrictive and regulatory, he may have to cut his employees. Any increased risk from hiring employees (health care law, etc.) and he'll cut all employees, cut some of the jobs he takes on and do all the work himself.

My brother has created a successful business but it is NOT easy. It is hard work. It took him many, many years to build it up. His expertise at his craft and his work ethic are what has made it possible. The US Government makes it very hard to be successful n small business these days. If the government pushes any more restrictions/regulations, small business will become smaller or go out of business completely.
I am going to say a couple of things and you can feel free to correct me.

You're brother is experiencing what is really one of the biggest problems with our economy. There are not enough workers trained to do the basic things that make businesses function. We have too many lawyers, stock brokers and risk management specialist in Anglo society and not enough technicians which your brother requires.

Universally few people want to do hard work outdoors and many haven't learned a work ethic either; especially with their parents carting their children everywhere they go because they don't see the need to get a license and buy a car. I started to see this in the late 1990's, its only accelerated since.

When you speak of drugs I am going to assume you are speaking about Methamphetamines which has not gotten the media attention Crack Cocaine has and we know why -

Lower Middle Class and Whites from the Working Poor are being targeted by Right Wingers like Charles Murray and others.

For failing to make the grade - http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/15/us/tw ... d=all&_r=0

This mirrors what House MD's friend has said about the White men she has available to in her local dating pool - viewtopic.php?t=21380
It's that there's few real men left, we've become a nation of lazy boys that would rather kick back and play Modern Warfare 22: Electric Boogaloo than do anything becoming of a real man. She could find a dozen boys that want to marry her- there's one guy that smokes pot all day and stocks shelves for minimum wage, another guy who is more interested in watching TV and playing Magic: the Gathering than he is in sex, another one who is drunk 70% of his waking hours and is unemployed, etc. All she wants is a guy who basically runs the show, and no man is willing to step up and do what men have been doing for 10,000 years.
So I am not shocked your brother can't seem to find willing workers, who want to work, show up on-time and work as scheduled.

This is the middle, the majority of that 20% of the 80-20 rule that women, White women especially can't seem to find a reasonable man, despite the belly aching around here.

I do have to make a slight correction to your blanket blaming of the Government being hostile to small business. The truth is, its not hostile to small business otherwise there wouldn't be an SBA. The Chamber of Commerce and large businesses are very much anti-small business because its these new business that come up with the innovations that force older companies to comply or get crushed. Large businesses would rather keep the status quo and roll out improvements and updates when it suits them and not before.

They only like small business so they can start up new companies to take advantage of the loopholes created in the tax code to encourage small businesses.

Obamacare wasn't intended to be odious, it was written by former Baucus aid and Health Net Exec. Liz Fowler; IE the revolving door between private industry and the Federal Government.

It was written by and for the Health Care Industry not to give advantages to people like your brother it was to further stoke the flames of Class Warfare, while giving some who would normally fall through the cracks like me health care at the expense of the State.

At some point these issues will be addressed however, not sure when that happens, 5-10 years from now I would think.

Who is your connection to Angel Investors? Got any links or anything I have tons of ideas :)

I am not using the lack of funding an excuse. I have to succeed because I am getting near the point where nobody will hire me for anything but the most basic job and not much more.

Setting up websites, SEO and other things are not expensive you only need time and a PC. Even getting drop shipping for product is not expensive.

My brother owns a company doing Electrical, Corporate Refrigeration, and Solar. His wife sets appointments, schedules work and workers, etc.. They have two employees that physically do Electrical, Refrigeration and Solar work. They don't need a useless Virtual Assistant for what they do. What they need are more employees that benefit the company, not slouches who put the company at greater risk. He works 70-80 hours per week as no employee compares to himself. None of them can do what he does and they are the only ones worth keeping after many YEARS of being in operation. He is working his own jobs while walking his employees through theirs over the phone. He works 15 hour days and takes one day off (Sunday for Sabbath). He can't push any more work off of himself due to the lack of competent employees.

My examples of successful small businesses are those who have small businesses. You can't compare a small business to a major corporation like McDonald's or Elitist Corporation CEO's/Owners. People like Trump are scum (Elitist pig). They aren't particularly intelligent, they just had everything set up for them. Just because a person is incredibly wealthy, doesn't mean they are smart...

There are Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists EVERYWHERE. In every major city.

You can search for Angel Investors and submit your business plan worldwide at www.gust.com

You can get really good business plans written at Fiverr.

They also have Angel Investor and Venture Capitalist lists that you can purchase at Fiverr.

They also have guides on Fiverr that show you how to start specific businesses.

Real estate is a business and investment combined and it's really good to start in because you can get started at any time and you don't any specific licenses or certificates.

In California, they have a good real estate mentor group called Fortune Builders.

In Texas, they have Lifestyles Unlimited which is a really good real estate mentor group.
