This piece is really on the money (and, of course, the section on PC Futurism is directly relevant to current exchanges on HA).
It's very difficult to find any kind of collegiality on the left. I've somehow found myself on an internet list of people from my undergraduate university who call themselves "liberals." These people love Obama, even though he has done nothing to advance any kind of progressive agenda. He came out for gay marriage, and that is all they care about. They never post on substantive policy issues, just pat themselves on the back for being enlightened exemplars of PC values. Say something even remotely substantive, or dare to criticize Obama, or suggest that PC issues are a diversion from what's really important, and they will be all over you.

Absolutely. PC is particularly dear to TPTB because it's an excellent way to focus the public discourse on "red hot" issues that can tickle everybody's opinion without the end result actually mattering much to society, in the grand scheme of things at least. I am not against any sexual minority on the planet, but if I were an elected (or unelected, but competent and responsible) policymaker, I would rather spend my time and energies to find a better taxation platform to restart my country's economy than accommodate the requirements of sexual minorities represented by dozens of different media niches and think tanks. It's not that I wouldn't care about protecting the LGBT crowd, it's that my logic says that a gay employee is better off having access to more and better jobs, than to a marketplace that is perfectly regulated by even more anti-homophobia laws but fails to provide jobs for him and the rest of the population, whatever their sexual orientation might be.
One could blame the political process to be a victim of PC weaponry. I don't believe it. It's all wanted, it's all a smokescreen, a diversion strategy, and it's been implemented to its most degrading effect in the EU as well as the US. It may sound a joke, but with a fiscal and currency union crisis of massive proportions, entire countries collapsing or already at civil war stage, a banking and industrial sector feeding from the taxpayer's tit and piling up trillions in debt with not a shade of regulation in sight, our unelected and handsomely paid Eurokrats have the time and resources to come up with:

The European Commission has engaged in a lengthy effort to define an EU Ecolabel criteria for flushing toilets and urinals, according to documents available online.

This was one of the best things i have read in a while. The thing that makes me angry the most about liberal talking points is that they them selves don't even believe their bullshit, when you get in a debate with one and ask them questions that require logical and substantive answers, you'll notice they wont be able to do that and they'll panic (it's so funny to watch,it works every time) and when it is obvious they are full of shit they still won't admit to being wrong about anything.Liberals care more about gaining consensus around their twisted views more so than they care about what they claim(or the victims) they stand for.
se eu soubesse o que eu sei hoje, teria mando mulheres americanas para foder-se há muitos anos.que deus abençoe o brasil!

I would agree 100% with you, if it weren't that using victims and minorities, real or alleged, to spin the momentum wheel, gain consensus and further a specific (and usually semi-covert) agenda, is a prerogative of all political factions across the world. Not just liberals, not just the US. Everywhere.skateboardstephen wrote:This was one of the best things i have read in a while.
Back in my time, when I used to debate and campaign for two or three different wavelengths of the leftist spectrum, I remember many people like me, perfectly capable of embracing an idea for the quality of the idea, not for the political advantages that holding that idea would bring them. Not everyone was like that, but do remember sharing a healthy dose of idealism. It's all gone now. The leftist parties are the closest to the degenerative powers of speculative finance, rock-bottom pop culture, corruption and cronyism.
Nothing left to see, besides the rotting carcass of a dead ideology (socialism).
+1...and of course, many will continue to feed on the decaying corpse...publicduende wrote:I would agree 100% with you, if it weren't that using victims and minorities, real or alleged, to spin the momentum wheel, gain consensus and further a specific (and usually semi-covert) agenda, is a prerogative of all political factions across the world.
