Most white men either get hookers that have already been popped by Thai guys and other hand me downs, or end up with the cast offs of the Thai society. Getting a normal Thai girl of the same education as you who is decent looking is not easy if you are a white man. Unless you are a big shot exec. But even then for a good decent Thai girl to be seen with a white guy in public is a shame.
E/SE Asian guys do not have that problem. So , I would say Thailand is really a paradise for well heeled Malaysians, Singaporeans, TWese, HKese, etc. Not for a sincere white guy looking for a romantic home with love and all.
Don't like the place at all!
I agree! I hate the dating life here in Isaan, as so many women are like western women, where they want, want, want, and are flaky. I have lived in Thailand for 8 months and feel that it is true that Thais will be polite to you, but that doesn't mean they necessarily like you. IMO, they are becoming more Westernized and less of the old-school Thai. I also HATE the provincialism of Thailand, with all the farang sh*t. Even if they know your name, they still refer to you as the farang. I know to them it's not offensive, but it shows that YOU are the outsider and aren't part of their culture, in their minds. But, that doesn't mean that they dislike you. Also, if you speak Thai you can actually understand the crap they talk about you like, hahaha blah blah farang blah blah (I think if more foreigners understood they might not like it as much). I am a teacher here and most of my students are friendly, but they don't respect me or the other ENG teachers like they do their Thai teachers. Also, I'm a very friendly guy, so it's not like I'm a mean teacher who students don't like. I am happy that I will visit America in a week, then I might teach in Thailand for one more school year, but after that, I'm going.

Also, don't forget, many Thai women want a sin sod ("bride price/dowry") from their husband, so that's a big downside to marrying a Thai woman, unless you agree not to pay one, or get it back from the family after the wedding.

Yes, I agree - Thailand is a great place for a white man to retire. But at the same time it's a corrupt, brutal and cruel society. You just have to learn to see it from another, more objective angle. And that may be hard - with a Singha beer in your hand and a hot Thai babe massaging your feet on Paradise Beach.

No money,no honey as the motto there.

Being in Thailand banging some whores or worst being screwed by a gold digger is a better outcome than just dying of solitude at home and running after women who at the end will also get everything.

If the situation is worsening in Thailand we just can say thanks to all the manginas who are the perfect guys to westernize women all around the world.
These suckers escape home, hoping to find their deluded paradise p-ussy and they just corrupt the place.

Now,as internet is plenty of them for these chicks, some don't even have the need to come to bars or atleast put some energy..there's always a p-ussy hungry or affective defective men who will send her money and being the right sponsor.

Isaan is well know for that..most poor family are raising their daughters to find the wealthy farang.
You just need to take a stroll in the villages and almost see how the parents are ready to sell their teens daughters if the provider take care of all the family.
Those who makes the bet to marry a bargirl are almost condamned to fail.
The guy has to send money,if he is at home too much time,in no way miss different will wait for him and will hook with a better one if she find it.
I have a pile of stories regarding this..at the beggining they are already purchasing the walking ATM and just put some weeks working in the bars you can imagine the picture.

Thailand is still the right sport for sex,for fun or for adventurous guys with cash who enjoy p-ussy or dick too.
Sexual experiences are ready available be it hetero, gay or tranny.

In Thailand and not even speaking of Pattaya, you just lose your turn.
Nothing is a special farang there unless you have the cash.

Have seeing plenty of western Thai couples where i was thinking it was the right combination but the Thai women kept really good her game and the guy was replaced as fast as he came to her life.
Easy to know or f**k there, but very difficult to take their heart.

This country has no culture of the future...everything is built on the present and everything is made to avoid suffering.
We can bring the exceptions and everyone expect to be the exeption but why looking for something who won't be easy to find.
Thai women knows, more those who has worked as hookers, that western men are weak.

In no way they will be treated the same way as Indian,Middle Easterner treat them.
Japanese too are seeing as big spenders and stupid even if they are quit sadistic.

I would prone a total cautious approach if somebody wants to embark in a serious relationship in Thailand.

Most of my Thai females friends who have a good economical situation told me that the vast majority of Thai women aren't interested in foreigners, they just prefer Thai men as they are close to their cultures.

I can tell you that i already know 3 guys who have lost interest with farangs women and went to Thailand to find their diamonds or play at will.
Now they almost don't even bother f***ing Thai women and are hooked with ladyboys.

For a successul relationship in Thailand the money is obvious but being there full time or most of the year is a condition needed in my opinion.
Speaking Thai will open a lot of the door.

The Phillipinnes look as a better place to have a committed relation maybe.
I've seeing the f**k in Thailand and wife in the Phillippines many times on various forums.

Probably a right combination to have.

Well I'm not in Thailand (and I've never been there). But I'm getting to really love the expat lifestyle.

It was about 70F today, and the sun was shining. Perfect weather for sitting outside a restaurant and watching girls.

I don't have a TV and there are no English newspapers here. So I can't read about the rubbish Brits back home are worrying about.

I don't know why people are debating whether Thai girls are hot or not. Just go to the country whose women you like best. For me that's China. I was on a bus with a load of Thai girls today. One was an 8 or a 9. But they're not for me. I've seen a few Chinese 10's today. Yeah, it's great being abroad.
I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

There are a few non-scum divorced women and widows as well. Of course you are getting their society's leftovers.

I'm not even 30 yet and I'm currently living the dream in Bangkok. No need to wait until retirement.

I have a swiss apartment, maid service, access to gym and pool, I date and sleep with 3-4 new girls per week, party 2-3 times, eat out every night.

Life is pretty good out here. :)

I went over this in another post. You don't like the place, I can understand this as it's not for everyone. But there are many farang living here with non-working girls and who are treated well. I understand this may be my experience but I know a large number of foreigners who have girlfriend and wives who would not dream of selling their asses.

Ladislav, perhaps it's difficult for you for whatever reason, I don't know, but I've been married to an educated, middle-class Thai for 13 years, and I"m no CEO or big shot executive. I will send Rock a couple of photos so he can see as I'm not going to post them on this forum. For what it's worth, I do have fair game though and I'm not intimidated by women. Oh, and I did not pay a dowry nor was I requested to do so.

If I remember correctly you said that "they hate you" in Thailand. False. Some may not love you but does everyone love you in your home country? Also, if you dress like shit and look or act low class, most Thais won't give you the time of day unless they're low class as well. Not saying this is why you have a hard time here but for some, it's definitely a reason. Obviously you and Thailand don't mesh.

Huh? Really? Jesus it astounds me how very little people actually know of Thailand. The women are no different than elsewhere - they want a stable man who is capable of being a man, who takes care of himself, physically and otherwise.

There are plenty of idiots farang to make it seem like all of them are getting married to Thai hookers but many, like myself, wouldn't be caught dead in a relationship with a ho. After you've been here a bit you ought to be sharp enough to realize the hos are for banging while you're working on any semi-serious relationship.
They are not subtle if you know the language. I do pretty well. So the horrible things they say and the way they call can you make your ears wither.
Well, I also speak the language (and read and write it) and I never seem to hear them say "horrible things." NEVER. Sometimes they may call a man or a woman chubby, fat, or if they're black, ผิวดำ or black skinned.
ladislav wrote:Would you like for one of our members to end up like this because he is a white guy?

Oh and can you read Thai schoolbooks and understand what the Thai teachers teach their children? Can you understand what they say on TV? Have you lived in Thailand long term to really understand what goes on? I don't think so. Unless you do, this argument is invalid.

I no longer wish to argue on unequal terms and post here. This is just a total waste of time.
Well I've lived here long-term, much longer than you, does that make our conversation unequal? I can read the Thai schoolbooks and I do almost daily when helping my kids with their homework. I have two children here and they're half-Thai, half American and they are not discriminated against one bit. In fact, they have many Thai friends and little Thai girls who are constantly messaging and calling them. Maybe they're just lucky.

I'm really not sure where you're coming from...to me, for whatever reason, you have a real hard-on for Thais. I have a saying, "Thailand is like an onion in that you peel away the layers and believe you start knowing the culture. But there are so many layers it is rare a foreigner truly knows Thailand." You don't have to know everything about a country to have a great time in it but even after 17 years I do not claim to know everything about the country or even close to it. Also, name a city here in Thailand and I have probably been in it, even those most have never heard of.

If Gordon Ramsey had only been cooking for three years, would he be considered an expert? I don't think so. There are so many experts on Thailand it makes me laugh. In actuality, there are very few.

Also, yes, as you seem to always fall back on the, "this is anecdotal" argument. In the end, isn't anything that cannot be measured anecdotal? Are all the posts on the hundreds of travel forums and forums like this one unworthy or untrue simply because they're based on experiences?

I will say this...I guarantee you I've experienced far more in my time here than you have in many more places, not only here but in SEA. I have many friends who have been here 15-20 years, and they also have had their share of experiences. I understand your experiences are not the same as other people who visit the country but if Thailand is such a horrible place why do so many WHITE tourists and expats come here and live here? Stupidity? Please....your argument about Thais hating white people has more holes in it than Swiss cheese and your posts about Thailand on this board are all negative. Is there anything positive about the country?

Remember this...lay down with dogs and you catch fleas. Hang out in beer bars and go-gos, you get the worst of the society. How many times have you met the manager of a company, a nurse, a doctor, or a bookkeeper selling her ass in Nana Plaza?

In my opinion there is no such thing as paradise and Thailand certainly has it's share of problems. But Ladislav, you make it seem as if it's the worst place on earth for non-Asians which is simply false. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you but you can say what you want about my information being anecdotal, the fact is many, many white males come to Thailand and have a fantastic time here. Some are sex tourists, others are not. Some make the mistake of hooking up with prostitutes, others end up with good, solid women.

I came here to train in Muay Thai. Although I knew the women were pretty and treated you well from my friends in the US and the Netherlands, I knew very little about the women and the sex industry. At the time, the internet and internet forums were still relatively undeveloped and I didn't use it anywhere near as much as I do now.

Thailand is much safer than the PI in my opinion.

One last thing and I also say this quite often....if you are foolish enough to come to Thailand, fall in love, and get married in a month or two, do you really expect the marriage to be a success? It is difficult enough to be married to a woman you know for a considerable length of time. Add in the difference in cultures and it gets even more difficult. If she's a ho, forget about it...the chances are next to nil it will work. This brings me to a couple of my golden rules:

1) Do not get emotionally involved with a working girl, ie; go-go dancer, bar girl, massage parlor girl, etc. PERIOD.

2) Never send a Thai woman money, EVER.

3) If she isn't supporting herself or have some sort of plan for her life other than sitting around on the farm, don't get involved with her.

4) If she sleeps all day, boot her ass. She's lazy.

5) Despite what you may think, if you hook up with a woman in need of money, she is NOT different. There is none this, "This girl is different." Bullshit.

6) Always assume they are a woman of substance but prepare yourself mentally and emotionally in the event they are not.

7) Abide by the two day rule. This means you can go with a ho once or twice, but never thrice. If you're getting them off or paying them well, by date three they'll be trying to set their hooks in you.

8) Don't ever buy into the "Mama is sick, daddy needs operation, the buffalo died."

9) Use the whores for what they are intended, sex. You can have fun with them, treat them well, but in the end, it's business.

10) Do not get emotionally involved with a working girl.

Ask yourself this, why would a man only want a long-term relationship with an uneducated, needy woman only for her looks? Serial monogamy maybe but I don't care how hot they are, how good looking they are, if they're an idiot, can't do anything for themselves, or are always bugging me for cash, they're just a sperm hole and that's all they'll ever be. They won't last with me.

BTW Ladislav - you keep saying you speak Thai and were a long-term resident and the readers should decide. They should definitely decide for themselves.

Just curious, what type of visa did you have?

I also am a long term resident and I will again say that your experience as a white male in Thailand is far, far different from my own and my white friends and your interactions with Thais and their reactions to you are atypical.

Kenneth Agee of AFA, whom I know in person and is one of our sponsors, also thinks Thailand is the best place to retire to. He wrote in a forum:

http://forum.escapingamerica.org/viewfo ... hoice.html

Thailand is my choice

I have been more than 20 countries over the last 15 years and I have to say Thailand is first choice for retirement. Great medical, low cost of living, beautiful beaches, so much to do. Close to everything, Hong Kong, China and Philippines are just short flights away. I am just waiting for my daughter to finish school. Although they do have some really good schools in Bangkok.

Links and research

Well this was not really from research on the internet, it is from personal experience. Like I have said I have traveled to many countries, not just as a tourist but setting up businesses. So many places I have gone I have spent months mingling with the locals and learning the culture. I think before you plan on moving anywhere you need to go and visit and spend some time.

I can tell you as far as medical they are the best in the world, look a the 60 minute piece. I saw this and then used the Bumrungrad hospital. Once you go there your realize how bad our system is here, 10% to 20% of what it cost here, and the quality puts America to shame.

See: http://www.escapingamerica.org/bangkok- ... pital.html

Second Bangkok has so much to do,
Third everything is very inexpensive,
Fourth a great night life.

Negative, traffic is terrible in Bangkok, but you can use the sky train to get around, passes are very cheap.

This is a great country, especially if you are on tight budget.

Bangkok Sky Train

The sky trains are similar to the elevated trains but must nicer and faster.

Fares and Skytrain Passes

The BTS Rabbit cards are used to access all stations. Fares start at 15 baht per one stop. A one-day pass may be a good option for those planning to do a lot of hopping on and off for one full day. But if you plan to be in Bangkok for a while, it might be a good idea to buy the BTS Smart Pass.

One-day Pass
Unlimited travel within the duration of a single day for 120 baht. Ideal for tourists.

Standard Rabbit Card / Stored Value Cards
These are available for 100 baht plus 50 baht refundable deposit. The Standard Rabbit Cards are valid for 5 years and can be filled with a minimum of 100 baht and up to 4,000 baht.

30-Day Pass for Adults
- For 15 trips (use within 30 days), 25 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 375 baht.
- For 25 trips (use within 30 days), 23 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 575 baht.
- For 40 trips (use within 30 days), 21 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 840 baht.
- For 50 trips (use within 30 days), 20 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 1,000 baht.

The following stations offer facilities (such as elevators) for disabled people: Mo Chit, Siam, Asok, On Nut and Chong Nonsi. BTS Tourist Information Centers can be found at Siam, Nana and Saphan Taksin stations. A very informative BTS city map can be picked up free from any station.

Yes some good info there.

I had a great time living in Bangkok last year. The only major issue was the unrelenting heat. White dudes aren't designed for that.

The country does have its problems though. There's a heck of a lot of corruption, and education standards are low. But if you like beer and ladies, there is no better place on earth.

Is Thailand only a retirement paradise for White men? What about Asian men?

Maybe we should change the title of this thread to "Western men"?

That's why Chiang Mai has become a popular area for retirement. Definitely cooler than BKK.

Chances are, Asian, black and Latino dudes can handle the heat better then really light-skinned dudes. Of course there are exceptions. It really helps having a young Thai hottie around to help you get in the shower. I think this is how I would spend my old age if I was ever a widower or divorced.

As many other countries, Thailand has its advantages and disadvantages, it's not bad for retirement as your visa-requirements are clearly regulated and did not change since years, you can buy your condominium on your own name, there are daily plenty cheap flights from everywhere to/from Thailand.

Disadvantages for example are missing health insurance, you have to pay out of your own wallet and for elderly foreigners this might be costly and risky.

About the hot and sunny weather in Thailand, it is still better than the cold and rainy weather in USA or UK during winter time.

Thailand is politically not so stable and you should have always another country in your mind and ready to move away quickly from Thailand if something is going wrong. It's fine to own a condominium unit, some money in a local Thai bank and maybe a motorcycle or a small car, but better keep your savings outside of Thailand.

While Thailand welcomes short-time visitors - tourists - it is not so open-minded to foreigners for long-stay. It is not easy to get a working permit, Thailand was very reluctant to create spouse visa and retirement visa and did so only a few years ago.

Keep in mind, you cannot buy your own house/land in Thailand, only units in condominium buildings and only if they meet certain requirements.

It is easy to change foreign money into Thai money, but try to change Thai money into foreign currency and look at the exchange rate.

It is difficult to compare Thailand and Philippines. Personally I think, Filipinos are much nicer people and retirement conditions are better too, but the country is poor and wide parts within the larger cities are slums.

Thailand is quite safe, foreigners are not a target in general for criminals. You can go almost everywhere, and nothing to worry about robbery and kidnapping. Living standard in Thailand is simply said better than in Philippines.

My family is visiting Thailand frequently since many years and we have our own condominium unit in Pattaya. It's a nice place for us for vacation for a few weeks or in future after retirement for a few months, but we do not consider to live there all year. We prefer to live in Japan.

Thailand is not a paradise, but life is still cheaper there than in Japan and most Western countries, especially during cold winter time. As I said, it's fine for a while, but not really as a permanent place living there 12 months a year.
