Couple quick questions. Will my iPhone work in the Philippines, or should I just leave it at home? Is it possible to watch an NFL game in Cebu and if so, where? Can you rent snorkeling gear (we don't dive)? Thanks.

I say leave it at home. It will slow you down at U.S. Customs when you return. Those Nazis will want to snoop through every damn thing that you have stored on the phone.

I would love to hear of suggestions for things to do and see while there. I love to fish, snorkel and eat out (as evidenced by my girth). Not so keen on long walks or mountain climbing.
Here's a suggestion:

You can start by getting your act together, and start taking your health more seriously. Obesity is nothing to be casual about. The fact that you describe your obesity in a very casual tone is a sign of attitude problems in other areas of your life.

Very likely, at your age you already have hypertension, and type 2 diabetes, and all the wonderful symptoms that come along for the ride: breathing problems, blood circulatory problems, kidney problems, increased risk of stroke, aneurysms, heart attack, and cancer. What a lovely list, huh?

You're fat, and that's a clear indication of poor decisions, poor attitude, and poor personal habits on your part.

You know, guys: we complain a lot about fat American women. But American men really aren't much different. They hold the same thoughtlessly casual attitudes, just like their women. I've noticed that American men who have foreign wives or GFs (usually from a poor country in SE Asia or Latin America) have this arrogant attitude of not caring about their own appearance or manners. They're really in-your-face about it too. Try to put yourselves in the shoes of his wife. Do you think she likes what she sees? You really have to feel sorry for her. This is why I tend not to sympathize much when I hear about American men complaining about how their women suck.

Jessica Gomes isn't a Filipina. She's half-Portugese mix.

Yep, I bring my iphone everywhere. You just buy a SIM card in Phils and plop it in. You might check with your carrier just to make sure your phone is unlocked.

As to snorkeling gear - yes you can rent everywhere, but in many places you might be better off renting a boat to take you out to the best snorkeling spots - they will have the gear also.

No way buddy, I'm no troll. I'm a truth teller. I gave that guy what he badly needs: TRUTH. When some American guy talks about being fat like it's a lifestyle choice, he will be treated with the contempt and scorn he so richly deserves.

But the truth is, fat or not, American guys don't deserve much sympathy or respect. In fact, they deserve a SUPER-MAJOR ass-kicking. And the way things are going right now in America, it looks like they're going to get one. They're definitely NOT going to get sympathy from foreigners who, looking at American men from afar, would probably conclude that AM generally are assholes, dickheads, morons, liars, pussies, and douchebags who got what was coming.

So f**k American men, as far as I'm concerned. They're just as WORTHLESS as their women. You think I'm a troll? You're just another truth-denier.

Jester, I just noticed that your profile says you live in Baja California - I took my daughter, niece and my niece's friend to San Filipe one year. Really liked that place. You close to it?

Not really, Komments, I'm in Ensenada. San Felipe, as I understand it, is an excellent fishing village inland on the Sea of Cortez, with lots of part-year Gringos from Arizona. Sweltering-hot in the summer, I hear.

Ensenada maybe used to be like that, decades ago, but maybe is a little larger and more diverse now.

Plus we are on the Pacific. I can hear the breakers on the beach through the open window as I type this.

Stop in, spare bedroom.

Would love to someday - right now I am stuck traveling to Canada a ton. Two weeks in Calgary and one week in Texas, rinse and repeat until mid-December.
