Momopi,

I think it goes without saying, but pics like these are always appreciated. This real-world view, in large clear photos, is rare.

They speak English, but it is hard to understand. Chinese people have told me Singaporeans speak bad Mandarin too.
The city has a lot of park space, which is nice, and the city itself looks good and is clean. But it also seemed fairly unfriendly, and it's horribly expensive.
I think citizens get housing help, so they don't have such high costs. It was OK for a short visit, but not really my kind of place.
Singapore was more affordable back in the 2000's, when things were cheaper and exchange rate favored the dollar. We have a few members here from SG and they're better qualified than me to speak on their housing and language policy. The younger Singaporeans that I interact with spoke fairly fluent Mandarin, versus their parents did not (they spoke Hokkien and English).

Back when I used to work for the financial industry, I was responsible for Asian-Pacific support and traveled to Tokyo and Singapore office couple times a year. Oddly they never sent me to Hong Kong office. It was my first assignment(s) abroad and I made a lot of friends and dated girls from SG and MY. When World of Warcraft came out I played in a SG guild. How I feel about SG/MY is based on experience accumulated over 15 years. At one point I was even looking at buying properties in KL. Compared to someone who visits SG or MY for the first time today, I think the experience is very different. To cite one example, back then foreigners could buy condos in Malaysia priced at $25,000 USD (RM 95,000) or above. Today the minimum is RM 500,000 to RM 2,000,000 depending on location:

This is totally overpriced, for this money - something between MYR 500.000,- to 2 million - you can buy a very nice condominium unit in Japan.

How many families in Malaysia, with average earnings could pay up to 2 million ringgit to buy a home? Almost impossible, except for a large Chinese family owning their own lucrative business.

1 million Malaysian ringgit is about USD 270.000,- = about 9 million Thai Baht.
For this amount you can buy a beach condominium unit in Jomtien of almost 300 sqm.

It's simple, Malaysia is not much willing to accept foreigners with average income, even not with higher than average income. You must be really rich - but as a rich man I would look for a different country to settle down.
To invest in a house/land 2 million ringgit (over USD 500.000,-) in Malaysia? No way!

Why would a rich man buy in Thailand vs Malaysia?

I understand that Malaysia has a high threshold to keep out the riff-raff (including me perhaps ;))
But your mention of what you could buy in Thailand at that price level does not mean you couldnt buy same in Malaysia

And IF you qualify, does Malaysia not allow you to buy and actual HOUSE, where you could shelter grandkids or dogs, versus Thailand, where you only get a 30 year lease?

Not saying Thailand is a bad deal, I think its OK. I just dont know if you are doing justice to Malaysia.

(If I had the cash, or a pension to qualify, I suspect I'd be in Malayisa, at least to try out)

momopi, have you noticed any differences between Chinese Singaporean and Chinese Malaysian women? I'm imagining that the latter could be slightly more down-to-earth and better marriage material, but they did a survey and found out that Malaysia ranks #3 or 4 in Asia when it comes to female infidelity, with South Korea in first place and Thailand in second if I remember correctly. Malay and Indian Malaysian women are, well, too religious and most are Hindu / Muslim.

I just want to know about Malaysian / Singaporean females because I'm curious, since this forum has very little coverage on these two countries. I know you have the 5 (6?) C's in SG, not sure if it is similar in Malaysia. I don't play to reside in either country but my adoptive father is currently in KL. I'd imagine Chinese Malaysian women from places like KL, Penang, Johor Bahru would be pretty similar to women from Singapore. Chinese Malaysians from Sabah / Sarawak could be different.

It's not about the women being from SG, MY, or anywhere else. It's about finding the right one for you. If you go to MY with the preconception that "you girls are all in the top rankings for being unfaithful", then don't bother.

Want to know what the people are like? Call your stepfather and ask to visit. If he's in KL you can go hang out at Mid Valley Megamall and just talk to people. "Hey it's my first time in Malaysia, I have no idea what to order for lunch. What is that you're eating?"
