Well Marcos,
You are an exception then. But that's not what 90+ percent of expats in the Philippines experience, including the other guys in the forum. I am skeptical of your claims about your wife and her family. Can we see photos of them or some evidence? You could be making all this up and we'd never know. It sounds implausible though. A Filipino who majored in philosophy? Yeah right. That would be very rare.

I'm just speaking of my experiences. And if the majority of expats say they have the same experience, then it's valid and real. Anyone here who has been to the Philippines reports the same thing. So what I say is very true and real, and your experiences do not discredit that in any way. The truth is the truth. Filipinos do not like to pay for stuff. That's a fact. I have thousands of examples as proof, and so does everyone else here. You can ask experts like Mr S or Ladislav who have spent many years in the Philippines. They will easily say that all I say is true, as true as 2+2=4. No one debates it except you.

I don't have to prove anything, but here's my wife and me at the campus of University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City. I know you have a great fondness for bar girls, but this is what a high quality and educated Filipina looks like. I will be removing the picture shortly.

She graduated earlier this year. With a baby. Pretty impressive if you ask me, and she was back into shape very quickly too. ;)

I got to know a girl a couple months ago who graduated from UP Dillman. She's bright, tall, attractive, and drives a late model SUV. She is from a business owning family (Winston, I can send you her photos on wechat group but keep private). But UP Dilman is one of top academic institutions in Philippines. It doesn't exactly contain your garden variety local.

I agree w/Winston however that less than 5% of girls you see in Phlippines are attractive (IMO). Metro Manila by far has the largest concentration so once you get out in the provinces, the number falls to even noticeably lower levels.

But as for Shenzhen, it's much lower for me than it is for Winston cus so many are too skinny and/or too short.

Yes, many Filipinos (but far from all) tend to believe foreigners (Asians, whites, even black Africans) should be the treaters and behave accordingly by opportunistically leeching lol.

But, when I've visited people's homes, more often than not, I was the one being treated to food and drink.

BTW Winston, do you remember my Taiwanese friend from the Bay Area? She was in Metro Manila for business a few months ago and invited me out with her Filipino classmate (they studied together in Europe). We went up to Gramercy 71 (the place you are afraid to go near the edge cus it's so high lol) and had a big dinner plus drinks. When the check came, it was well over 4,000 Pesos. Guess who insisted on paying the whole bill??? It was her classmate who by the way looks pure Malay. Yep he treated us to everything. And yes, while he has a very good job, drives a decent car, etc. he's not rich or anything like that.

Why don't you try to say something positive for once? Why do all your comments about China have to be NEGATIVE? Geez. Why don't you bring some balance into your viewpoints?
Why so many dumb comments today? Why the lack of understanding?
Why is my comment STUPID?

What you write now about China, you wrote a few years back about Philippines, I also remember some comments from you about wonderful Russian girls...

It's not really 'negative' what I said about you - but I said I expect you will move on sooner or later to some other countries and try out girls over there - the question is only which countries? India? Why not? This forum does not provide much information about a wide area with over 1 billion people.

Different people have different opinions. Why shall I write something positive about China in general, if I see nothing really positive with this country? I see no reason why I should 'balance' (balance = self-censorship?) my viewpoints.

Keep in mind, I am not a Chinese, I see China as an outsider, not as an insider. My acceptance criteria are about what fits me best and not what fits an overseas Chinese best.

As I said before, if I had to choose between China or USA, I will choose USA any time. I would also prefer EU, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and even Cambodia to China. I see absolutely nothing which is attractive for me about the People's Republic of China.

Congratulations Marcos!!! You have a beautiful wife and daughter. I'm sure you must be very happy and proud of them!

I myself am married to a beautiful Filipina. Not only does she have a degree in secondary education teaching English (she currently teaches English at the college level) but she will attain her master's degree soon too. She was a beauty pageant winner in the past and also earned extra money in college, modelling for photo shoots.

Beauty and brains together with more traditional family-focused values in a Filipina? Marcos and I are one of many, many examples of how it is very possible, contrary to anything that Winston says. But you have to start looking in the right places first.

The problem with Winston is that he wasn't looking for higher quality, educated women in the Philippines when he was there. Chasing low hanging fruit like bar girls in Angeles City is not what most men would consider high quality, educated women. Even if he tried though, I don't think higher quality Filipinas would be interested in someone like Winston. And yet, given his very limited experience with high quality, highly educated women, Winston chooses to disparage all Filipinas in one fell swoop.

Winston was lucky though that he had a son with a Filipina who is responsible and loving towards their son. Though she may not be highly educated, I think Dianne has much higher qualities to admire than Winston.

As I said in another thread, Winston's problems in life can be traced to his bad karma. I have no idea how much negative karma he's generated over his lifetime but I imagine it must be a lot. Much more than even what we've read about on this forum. Hence all of the problems and issues that Winston suffers through daily. Simply praying and chanting won't change Winston's karma. He needs to change it through his actions, which need to be positive and he needs to have a lot more of them. But based on what we're seeing to date, I don't think life will get any better for him in the long run. Only time will tell.

Another example of the bad karma that Winston generates, all on his own. Why does Winston feel the need to call someone stupid? Simply because he disagrees with what someone says?

For someone who is in his forties already, this seems emotionally immature. It seems like he glossed over what was written, saw something he didn't like and reacted emotionally to it.

Does Winston act like this in real life too? Does he call people stupid or curse at them in front of their face if he disagrees with them? It's easy to be brave on an Internet forum (even the most timid of cowards can act tough on the Internet) but how does he act in real life? My advice to you Winston is don't do this in real life. You won't like what might happen to you.

BTW, I am Chinese, have lived and traveled in both China and the U.S. And if I had to choose, I would choose the U.S. over China in spite of all of the problems in the U.S.

It's more about that here in this forum are 2 groups of people, one group (the larger one) is going to Philippines only for cheap sex, while the other one (small one, a few people only) have nothing to do with all this sex-life, bar-girls etc. etc.

I belong to the small group in this forum with a lot of connection to Philippines, but without any sex-relationship. So you think, because your experience is different in Angeles City, this speaks for all foreigners visiting the Philippines and the others, who are not into Angeles sex-life are making up their stories?

I think your analysis is spot-on, Yohan. It usually is. When it comes to love, romance and traveling, the Philippines is like the Wild West, and we're the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. You decide who is what.

WildWest or not, it seems the Filipina is still the better mother, when the father of her children abandons them...
Desperate Chinese woman offers to give away her three sons to strangers for FREE after being abandoned by her husband
I think, this Chinese woman is a scammer, a professional liar and beggar.

There is plenty of advice on the internet about what to do and what not to do in Thailand in case you consider to buy a property.

If foreign men are scammed by Thai women it's really their own fault. You cannot help such men.

I also wrote several times here in this forum, what to do and what not to do in Thailand. A foreigner cannot own land in Thailand - only condominium.

If such land-transactions on behalf of a foreign boyfriend are arranged with a 'workaround' by his Thai girlfriend, how can he be surprised that the house and land belongs to her and not to him?

The golden rule is easy: Buy a condominium unit in foreigner's name and make sure it is fully paid with foreign currency and ONLY the foreigner's name is registered in the land-title BEFORE marriage with a Thai woman. This condominium will be yours forever, even after divorce. In Thailand the property law is very strong and overrides the family law in case of divorce.

It is not the fault of Thailand, if foreigners acting like idiots, love-blind because of 'yellow fever'.

China has now similar regulations regarding property ownership.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/ ... cmpid=yhoo

Interesting article about VERY rich young people in China.

A few sentences out of the report
As portrayed in the local press, fuerdai are to China what Paris Hilton was to the U.S. a decade ago, only less tasteful. Every few months there’s a fuerdai scandal, whether it’s a photo of a woman about to set fire to a pile of 100-yuan ($16) notes; members of the much derided Sports Car Club posing beside their Lamborghinis; or someone pulling a gun during a street race. In 2013 reports of a fuerdai sex party at the beach resort of Sanya provoked a nationwide finger-wag. Two prominent rich kids got into a public arms race over who had the bigger stash: The widely despised socialite Guo Meimei posted photos online of herself with 5 million yuan worth of casino chips; her rival responded with a screen shot of his bank statement, which appeared to contain 3.7 billion yuan. (Guo was sentenced to five years in prison for running a gambling den.) Recently, the son of Wang Jianlin, a real estate mogul and the richest man in China, trolled the nation by posting a photo of his dog wearing two gold Apple Watches, one on each forepaw. Fuerdai outrages occasionally feature government intrigue, such as a 2012 Ferrari crash in Beijing involving two young women and the son of a high-level official, all of whom were at least partially naked when they were thrown from the car. The man’s father, a top aide to then-president Hu Jintao, was later arrested and charged with corruption.
No question about, but some Chinese live in a paradise, but only some of them.

According to World Bank, China is now # 100 out of 213 countries regarding income per person = China USD 7,380 per year/ USD 615,- per month. China is # 105 with USD 13,130,- per year considering purchasing power = USD 1094,- per month.

I read that article earlier today. The most striking part to me was the last paragraph:

"Not everyone has discovered a purpose. Zhang, the Uber driver, said his job at the TV production company is hardly his ideal career. But he’s not sure what is. “As a kid, I had a lot of dreams,” he said when we met up at the cafe near his office. “I wanted to be a golfer or a race car driver or a doctor, something like that. … But when you get older, you see more, and you see that some goals are just a dream.” He lit up a cigarette—now illegal indoors in Beijing—barely casting a glance to see if a waiter would stop him. Zhang never had any limitations, which was perhaps itself a limitation. “I don’t really have a plan,” he said. “Probably it’s a sad thing, but it’s the truth.” When I asked him if he’s happy, he said it’s all a question of attitude. “You can find a million reasons to be sad,” he said, “but you only have to find one reason to be happy. Every day I find one.” I asked him what today’s reason was. “Today, I meet you,” he said. “It’s a happy thing.”

Over on this side of the ocean, this was published today:

Two interesting experiences and observations I had in Guangzhou, China last week:

1. On the way back to my hotel late one night to meet Zboy1, I saw a guy passed out on the sidewalk floor who seemed unconscious. Two policemen were standing over him and their parked car was flashing blue and red lights. I watched for a long time as the policemen politely nudged the unconscious man on the floor and patiently waited for him to get up. They must have been there for an hour at least, politely waiting for the guy to get up or trying to help him. Zboy1 and I watched from the window of the 7-11 we were in.

I've never seen cops who were that patient before. In the US, the cops would have been a lot meaner and impatient for sure. How can that be, since we are told that China is a communist dictatorship and tyranny with no freedom? How can the cops in China be a lot more polite and laid back and non-confrontational than the a-hole badass bully cops n the US?

2. I walked into a hospital in Guangzhou to try to get medication for my high blood pressure, which had ran out. They did not have the same drug I use called Atenolol, so they gave me another one instead. But the thing is, I only waited 5 minutes to see the doctor and it only cost me a registration fee of 8 RMB, which is a little over ONE DOLLAR! And the drugs they prescribed for me to pick up at the hospital pharmacy only cost 34 RMB, which is almost 6 dollars! Wow. That's the cheapest hospital visit I ever experienced. It was virtually free, even though I didn't have any health insurance.

I told our HA Wechat group about this and Zboy said he was treated at a hospital in China for dirt cheap too, and that in the US messed up healthcare system, it would have cost hundreds of dollars at least.

Btw, to all you critics of China: You gotta understand that I don't give a shit about your news reports and statistics about China, because as Einstein said:

"The only source of knowledge is experience." - Albert Einstein

If you compare China with USA, you are right. Police in USA has a very bad reputation - often compared with gangsters - and healthcare in USA is horribly overpriced and badly regulated.

Most Western countries are NOT like that however. Police in general is quite OK and respected in EU and most people have national health insurance cover and do not pay anything for medical care.
