The Truth About Professional Sports

Post by Winston »

I heard from Noam Chomsky and others that professional sports was developed to condition the population to be passive docile observers rather than become active for change. They train you to displace your aggression onto icons and sports heros, to keep you passive and uninvolved. That makes sense cause that's what it does.

After all, what other real benefit does professional sports have? You cheer for your team and put a lot of emotional investment in it. But all for what? It seems like a waste of energy.

Hmmm.

I think it's more to do with tribal instincts, to be honest. Football here has been going on for centuries, long before anyone could have engineered it as such, I think. Men grow up supporting their local team no matter what. It brings them together in the pub, gives them something to talk about with their friends, something to go and see on the weekend. I adore the atmosphere of the World Cup, it's electric.

But I can't see the connection between this and keeping people submissive politically. But then again... you can't really call British men 'passive docile observers' of football

He's a spoil-sport who doesn't have fun watching the games, and think other people shouldn't have fun watching the games either. There are 2 knobs (or buttons these days) on a TV, one to turn the channel and another to turn it off. If you don't like what you see, turn the channel or turn the TV off.

As far as I'm concerned, if a bunch of people want to engage in competitive jock worshiping, that's their business.

Here's the UCLA Team:

Note that MEN can JOIN these teams (see URL above). They need men on these teams to hoist the girls up! Back in school we used to joke about a guy who was in the squad. His last laugh was "look where MY HANDS are" -- right under the girl's skirt.

The USA is a very competitive society and it has many means of ritualized competition to slake the thirst for combat.

This should be under conspiracy. HG Wells was a proponent of professional sports as well. Before that time, sports were only for little boys to play during childhood. Now we play it all throughout school up to ages 21 or 22, watch it on TV daily. It is a distraction, just like pornography, television, feminism, racism, the false arguments btween the left and the right, etc.

Couldn't the same thing be said of karate movies?

I think people are looking too much at normal modern sports from a conspiracy aspect, and not making the connection to the old Roman gladiator stadiums. I think it definitely has the effect Chomsky writes about. In the case of NFL and NBA, though, I think their first goal is to make money, and keeping people passive is likely a pleasant side effect that came as a bonus.

Even when I was very young I never enjoyed watching sports very much, although I did like to play them with those who had a mentality of friendly competition (generally the exception to the rule).

I remember the first time I sat down to watch the Superbowl, I was always secretly anticipating the moments when the commercials would start. :D

This black guy I listen to called The Real Merkabah makes a good point in the video below about the reason why sports stars and movie stars are paid so much money. The reason is because they are a MAJOR weapon of the powers that be. The entertainment industry is WEAPONIZED against the American masses to keep them distracted, so people don't get angry that they are enslaved and pay attention to the crimes of the US elite. So the masses have to be constantly distracted with entertainment, which is WEAPONIZED against them. It makes some sense if you think about it. This guy explains it well. Hear him out. He's very bright and aware.
