Movie poster depicts men as dumb and immature

Postby The_Adventurer » July 6th, 2010, 3:29 pm

I was in the cinema the other day and I saw a poster that really jumped out at me. It was for the Adam Sandler film Grown Ups

Image

The poster was similar to the one shown above (but the women were placed above) and the message it sends is clear with the attitude on the "mature" women's faces while the men all act like little children. I haven't seen the actual movie, and don't plan to, but I was amazed how out and front the feminist attitudes are in films.

Recently I saw the film Splice and, though it was a decent horror flick, I was amazed at the how the main character was such a wuss and was constantly being bossed around by his girlfriend who "made everything happen". She took the initiative, made the great scientific discoveries and even got the credit.

It is amazing, after spending time watching mostly Japanese and Chinese films, how different the tone of North American or Western films has become.

How right you are, Terrence. I finally got rid of TV in my house, since it was all hype, bad news, and anti-male bias. Look at all the commercials in the US, which portray men/husbands/boyfriends as being total idiots and the girls/women as being the only ones with any sense. Often, it was even the kids who had to "set the men straight", since even children are apparently more intelligent than the men. I personally think this started back in the 70s (height of the feminist movement) with the old "my husband gets his shirts so dirty" Wisk commercials, such as this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwCNvsUqoQw.
No sh!t, woman, he's out there busting his ass all day so you can stay home and whine. That's why his collar needs washing. It's only gone downhill from there. Almost all the s(h)itcoms in the US are also about putting down men, and they are the epitome of stupidity.

You said it, Red Dog! Ignoring the American media (apart from say local storm alerts) is one of the best things you can do to unplug from the matrix of American propaganda if you're still living in the US.

Now there are so many alternative sources for news and entertainment online. Many countries have English language news sites about their country's news. You can also download foreign movies and TV shows with English subtitles sometimes. I'm quite a fan of Aljazeera English's news--I would never be allowed to say that in America! And YouTube is full of content in foreign languages when you progress to the point where you no longer need subtitles.

Its a very familiar theme in the media. Highly feminized and disfunctional men are saved by feminists. In reality, feminists don't save anyone except themselves. Its communist inspired social engineering at its finest. Feminized, dysfunctional, drunk men are easier for the goverment to control. In China and Russia, men are controlled by military force. In western countries men are controlled by psychological warfare.

Over on the internationalsexguide in the American women subforum, there was this man from Moldova who said even in his country men are portrayed negatively in the media.

Is it the same way in Hungary? I dont know how much Hungarian language knowledge you have just yet or even if you are watching TV over there. Let us know, please.

The female author of the popular Twilight books and movies says she is very often verbally attacked by feminists because her main character just sits around and waits to be saved by the men in her life. Even if she tries to point at the fact that it is because she is human, while the guys who save her are vampires and werewolves, it doesn't seem to matter to the feminists. They hate her, and hate the idea of an entire young generation of girls reading her work.

I even notice this trend in action shows, as opposed to just sitcoms. In the new version of V, there is no Donovan fighting the good fight against the aliens. Now a woman is the smart and useful leader of the group while the guys are either wusses or over-the-top testosterone fueled hotheads who would destroy everything if she didn't keep them in line.

For those who are aware of the original Battlestar Galactica TV series and the new "re-imagining" that became popular on Sci-Fi Channel, here is what original star Dirk benedict had to say about the differences between the 1980's TV show and now:

"Un-imagining' is more accurate. To take what once was and twist it into what never was intended. So that a television show based on hope, spiritual faith, and family is unimagined and regurgitated as a show of despair, sexual violence and family dysfunction."

He relates the change to what he perceives as a general anti-masculinity agenda, saying "One thing is certain. In the new un-imagined, re-imagined world of Battlestar Galactica everything is female driven. The male characters, from Adama on down, are confused, weak, and wracked with indecision while the female characters are decisive, bold, angry as hell, puffing cigars (gasp) and not about to take it anymore."

He actually said that? Where? Didn't he get flamed for that?

Did you know that the Starbuck character in the new Battlestar Galactica is a female? Benedict's character has changed genders! lol

alright, alright, i will quote on this. i usually dont quote for many reasons. one of them being that you guys are often right and i dont have much to say or that you guys say so many interesting intelligent things that it truly wears me out. Im not used that. Im used to one word answers and looks for everything. Many people here text and do a lot of stupid things on communicating so you cant expect me easily jump from one to the other. you can say i have been dumbed down and lazy but anyway i just wanted to say that on why i dont post as much as i want to even though i do want to. I would like to say so much but its one idea to the next then when i finally want to say something all the ideas wear me out. okay, okay, talking too much that is something that doesnt take likely here. i will respond now.

being that i am familiar with all this i will several things i just have to say, i couldnt help it.

I was actually surprised adam sandler did this movie being it so close to where I am. He has changed through the years too. He used to be real bad ass. when I grew up. We used to love him my surrounding culture was different and more male dominant so his bad ass comedies were well liked. Now his dumb himself down to do stupid romantic comedies like these. Him and that stupid fat guy should retire. I think its funny that stupid fat guy being Americas sweetheart married and asian. Those two describtions of those two posters were dead on. I mean come on, how many times do I have to see grown ups acting like kids? Where are those family oriented movies for kids and mature adult movies for families? They don’t exist because these type of people don’t exist anymore. Kids don’t believe in any of that crap. Kids at an early age are into sex and grown ups at late age are sleeping around with anything they can. Of course the guys in the poster look like stupid overgrown kids and the women look like they want to be in their teens so badly. No sense of maturity and im sorry this genre is so played out and so not funny.

I saw that stupid movie with stupid oscar winner adrain brody I swear I don’t know how his famous or how he won anything. That movie was a joke and it really sucked. I recently half watched the new predator his in another garbage. Don’t waste your time.

More and more of these movies suck and nothing worth a bumble gum. I watched twilight when it first came out and I couldn’t hack watching the first 10mins. It really hurt my mind. Last week for the first time I saw transformers I was so dumb founded that stupid movie got so much hyped it wasn’t even transformers it wasn’t even for the intelligence of some kids. When I grew up I saw teenage mutant ninja turtles now that was a real bad ass movie. In transformers I didn’t even like megan fox. I don’t think shes not attractive shes not super hot but come on, she looked so unnatural in such an unnatural setting. Do you really think a hottie like that would be caught dead walking down the street by herself and on top of that know mechanic stuff? I don’t even know mechanic stuff and ive been around mechanics and did she really have to be tanned to her f***ing heels? I mean come on. Shes hot and there is no way around that. You don’t have to use all those gimics to make her more appealing. What am I one of those gay fashion queers? If I find a woman hot I’ll find a woman hot no type of enchancements is going to change that.

Good movies that I watch lately piss me off. Mostly cause I feel stupid. I find these pretty good movies that nobody knows about and im like am I the only one with good taste anymore? One that comes to mind is harry brown. I saw that f***ing movie and it was so bad ass. the movie really kicked ass the max. yet nobody gives a shit about it till it hits theater or some f***ing stupid shit. I saw taken literally 1 year before one stupid American knew about it. I told everyone about it, nobody listened now it’s a big hit of course they had to dumb it down for us. Im like why? Its perfect the way it is.

Anyway, im not saying you should watch asian cinema or anything but definetly stay away from this crap. Its just stupid. Whats another one I couldn’t stand, avatar, and that stupid porno for women spartacus. Wow talk about a stupid tv show for stupid people. Nothing but over the top gore for the stupidest people and porno aimed at women. With no sense of realism or plot. With the stupidest customs ive ever seen in my life. The funniest part is that everyone loves this show. As soon I hear someone says I love that show. Boom I hit the road running.

before i start on this, let me ask. are you in bruce lee or is it just the apple icon you like?

i think it was mighty brave of you doing that. i have considered many times just getting rid of all the technology in my life but at the same i think without technology i wouldnt some good stuff like a chance to advance in life. i have to have a middle ground somewhere. what i do do is i dont watch tv. i watch stuff i want to watch and then i turn it off.

those comments about the portrayal of men on commericals is so true the funny thing is that by going by that logic women would be the leaders but women are even dumber than these girly stupid teenage boys so its like there is no winning. the dumbest leading the dumber. i have no respect for neither and no its not that i dont respect intelligence. if they were smarter and worth my time id say go ahead lead them lead the way but they are not any better they are way more childish then kids themselves. so where are we heading?

I just read Dirk Benedict's whole rant about how TV in general has degraded and how feminist and grim it has become, especially the new Battlestar Galactica series and A Team movie. Wow Dirk Benedict shares our views! He could be one of us! Maybe he can do an interview with Steve Hoca.

Yeah he calls her "StarDoe" instead of "buck" heheheh ;)

I think that came from a magazine article in "Dreamwatch" or something. I can imagine he would get flamed big time, but I hadn't heard about.

I saw the pilot and maybe one other episode of the new Galactica. Never really got into it. Benedict is right in that it is too dark and devoid of hope. Now Sci-Fi is ruining Stargate by going in the same dark direction.

I JUST SAW ANOTHER!

I just watched the movie Repo Men. It falls into this category too. The movie looked great if you want to see some of the best future city stuff ever put on screen. Still, aside from some majorly inane plot developments based on typical Hollywood formula bullshit, the movie panders to the same problems we are discussing.

This ultimate bad-ass Repo Man, who kills 3 or 4 people at a time in knife fights, has a bitchy wife who makes him change his job, and then leaves him standing outside the front door with a suitcase, literally begging to see his son when he doesn't change his job fast enough for her.

I also saw the A-Team. Not as bad but, of course, it wouldn't be complete without the tough female character driving so many things.

Dirk Benedict, in that full article, was right. So many things in Hollywood are female driven now.
