Disability? Consider the Philippines

This young lady suggests that the Philippines is a great place to go if you have a disability, so long as you have your own income.

Do they have the infrastructure to make getting around in a wheelchair easy? Like access ramps for buildings?

I doubt it.

Maybe the girl means it's easy for disabled guys with money to get a girl in the Philippines. That's probably true.

"... I used to coach a handicapped bowling league. It was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. There was a blind guy (Bill) in our group who bowled, with help of a guiding rail to know where to aim the ball. He was a funny guy who always joked about his blindness (“So, I saw this really cool car this morning!” kinda humour). If he played badly he blamed me because I was the one who set up the rail and made sure it pointed at the pins!

Anyway he admitted that he’d had zero luck dating girls and married a Filipino girl he found in a paid marital service. He was the first person I knew who’d done this. He visited her 3 times in The Philippines before they got married. Then he married her in Manila and brought her back to Australia.

Honestly, she was the loveliest girl. She was quiet when they came out together but he said she was very loving and cared for him a lot. I’d never seen him happier. They have two kids and are still together (this was 15 years ago).

I’m sure it sometimes (maybe often) works out badly, but Bill and his wife are a great couple. It made me appreciate how hard it can be for handicapped people to have relationships or find love and happiness."

I doubt it.

No. In fact sidewalks are uncommon in most cities.

However in a country with tens or hundreds of thousands of unemployed nurses, getting a live in nurse (and no, I'm not talking about a gf, but an actual nurse) would be very cheap, no matter what your physical or health problem is.

I know of one thing. There is no SSI, pensions, Medicare, or Medicaid in the Philippines.

You're absolutely right, Traveller! None of the third-world countries, and only maybe one or two second-world countries have something for people who can not work.

Bad news for disabled American guys; you're doomed to remain single for life, so you may as well just take a circular saw, start a fire in the barbecue grill, slice off your genitals, and burn them. And then sit in the dungeon and rot away. Or even go street preaching with a bullhorn that marriage is idolatry, that women worldwide are Satan's demons, and that no man who marries will ever make the Kingdom of Heaven. May as well even crash a few weddings that take place in outdoor areas such as parks and beaches with your bullhorn by saying that the union being formed is idolatrous and is also demon/Satan worship.

You can received SSDI abroad, and of course Social Security Retirement benefits.

It's very difficult to get around in PI if you're handicapped, especially in a wheel chair unless you have personal helpers with you all the time to help you navigate. I injured my knee 6+ months ago and never realized how difficult and dangerous it is to do basic things the average person takes for granted. The sidewalk here are extremely dangerous to walk on if your mobility and balance are compromised.
