Thai government to crack down on prostitution

Post by drronnie »

The Thai government is now going tough on prostitution and massage parlour. I do not understand the point of this. Could I assume there is pressure from women especially feminist minded women? I see hard times coming for me if this were to go through.

If they are cracking down on prostitution, they will have to go after dating, marriage and mistresses too, since they are the same thing, just with more polite names.

I took my first trip to Thailand 15 years ago and I went for a visit with my wife last year. In Bangkok, the difference between the amount of P4P back then compared to now has dramatically decreased. The Nana area which is historically been "party central" is changing by the day. Slowly but surely they are ripping down some of the old buildings and replacing them with modern high rises usually full of condos. It's clear as day that they are starting to cater to the different crowd and that would be the Chinese tourists and in the process shunning the P4P tourists which they view as an eyesore.

I don't think the Thai gov't wants to end all P4P because it's still a huge cash cow but they want to eventually chase it out of Bangkok and move it out to Pattaya.

I was last there a couple months ago in Bangkok and Pattaya and had to stay for an extended period too. To put things in perspective, I don't think I've seen anywhere else in the world with the sheer concentration of various types of P4P action as those two cities. Asoke has kinda become a new modern center of town with MRT and BTS intersecting there. Yet still it's filled with freelancers in the wee hours in all directions filling all the areas between the fancy hotels, condos, and eateries. Didn't the action used to be more concentrated just in the Nana / Cowboy / Patpong / N. Petchaburi + various soapies? Also, don't forget, the online escort business has boomed in recent years plus many dating sites provide access to hundreds or even thousands of quasi to full blown p4p girls.

If I compare the first time I ever set foot in Thai to now, I would say the choices and variety of girls and services are way beyond what was ever on the menu in the old days and the price ranges from free to sky is the limit. Life is a lot more comfortable there now and many lifestyle options are awesome. So maybe they will crack down But which soapie was shut down? That doesn't seem like so extraordinary to me.

http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/ is writing about online escort business this week and wrote about bars last week. It's inevitable that the better girls will move online, and there will be an airbnb/uber like system where both girls and customers give feedback. Actually, you could have a combined service, where you get transportation from the airport, an apartment, a selection of escorts, and food delivery, for a special price. Bars are just nasty and eventually only the lowest girls and lowest mongers will be using bars.

Check this gem of a paragraph from last week's stickman column:

Many long-term retirees / older expats look like shit. It's one of the first things I noticed when wandering Sukhumvit that first morning. Many middle-aged and older expats clearly don't look after themselves, many are alcoholics / have a crap diet, get little exercise and only visit the doc when there's a problem. More than a few look like they're about to die.

IMHO, it used to be much crazier back in the day. I first visited Bangkok in year 2000. There was one other party area called (interestingly) Clinton Plaza which contained a bunch of mini beer bars that was torn down and never replaced. Also, you used to see so many old guys running around with their "dates" in the daytime. The Skytrain used to be littered with this sight and now, it's not nearly as common in Bangkok. Soi 11 used to be a madhouse with all the drunken British punters roaming the streets. My guess is they still come and make a beeline for Pattaya.

At night, you'd see hundreds of free lancers hanging around. The wife and I walked thru Nana last year and while they are still milling around at night, it was no way near the levels as before.

But you are probably correct that the online P4P has increased which is much more difficult for the police to monitor...

I just don't appreciate the short dark slim exotic types that bulk of white guys seem to go gaga for. If you go back to the 70s even after Viet War wound down, you had busloads of girls migrating to Pattaya each week. And they were easy and cheap to get. But, 99.9% of them were short to tiny (many under 5 ft), dark, spoke bar girl English, and really pretty much looked the same after you saw a few dozen.

The girls around and about nowadays can fit about any niche. Average height in the country has increased 4 inches in last 30 years and many of the current young women have great feminine curves. I would say the better areas of Bangkok has a lot more hot girls than any other Asian capital I've spent a significant amount of time in plus unmatched diversity, especially if you include visitors. When I was there with Winston, he ended up flirting with more NE Asian girls than actual Thais. But if you go for the Thais, cute, hot, stunning can be found all over.

If you're a decent looking and stylish young guy (white, NE Asian, whatever), you can likely kill it with TInder too. And some of these girls have pale white skin, are tall, curvy yet slim, and speak with elegance. The bar girls from olden are mostly "you pay bar, go me short time, me not same same other girl, you handsome man, me like you, we go boom boom". That's what white guys miss about Thailand? Short dark spinners who talk like that?

I see the same dynamic play out in Phils most times. While Asians and even Arabs often seem to show at least some taste and discretion in who they take, white guys invariably approach bottom of barrel (looks, education, and often straight up bar girls). I would say that applies to at least 80% of the white guys I see in SE Asia who are with local girls in some capacity.

Places like Washington Square were for old timers. They had their charm. But they were pretty run down and dodgy and you needed a lot of drink in you to appreciate the girls lol. Soi 11 a bit down still has a massage row that cuts to Soi 13 which is full of girls most times of day and past 2 am. Both Winston and David Pearl found girls they really liked there. It's very inexpensive and you can even find students who do it occasionally for extra cash, etc. If you're into tall, light skinned, slim or curvy, girls who look super cute to other Asians, you can encounter them there too. And the soapies today are off the charts compared to a decade or more ago! You can find all types in Bangkok - the typical short dark and exotic that white guys like, the elegant, slim, and cutish looking ones Japanese/Korean guys tend to go for, the full figured big assed gals that Arabs and Africans like, or girls that meet a fetish (big boobs, big asses, short, tall, slim, big, fat, curvy), and even girls who look like models and are NOT ladyboys. Oh and even the ladyboys are much more diverse than years gone by.

So far, that's just the foreign oriented stuff. P4P is imbedded into Thai culture even though it's illegal there. A large number of young local guys esp. outside tier 1 cities loose their virginity through that means. That means for each provider or casual dater of non-locals, there may be a dozen or more who serve Thai men.

Hope current powers continue to let Thais be Thais lol.

BANGKOK: -- Police, soldiers and public administration officials descended on Nataree Massage Parlour in Rachada Phisek Road Bangkok on Tuesday.

The raid followed complaints of human trafficking violations and other illegal activities at the soapy massage emporium.

They found a total of 100 girls offering sexual services, three of whom were under the age of 18, reported Sanook.

Ten foreigners were found to be working there in breach of regulations. In addition officials found bank statements itemizing possible illegal payments to third parties.

The raid apparently followed three months of preparations and evidence gathering with officers posing as customers.

The operation was shut down on the strength of operating a sex business and employing foreigners, The enquiry will be widened to follow the trail of any illegal payments found in the bank statements.

The raid was led by the Department of Provincial Administration, the Internal Security Operations Commands and police, while the complaints were filed by NVADER, an organization aimed at stopping human trafficking, Naewna reported.

This is a New Zealand based NGO...Just another DNA defect of the white race to FIX things around

Thai's have no issues folks...Don't be misled...This raid happened due to White Man's desire to FIX THINGS AROUND.

The raid at Nataree comes after complaints from the NVADER group that has offices in New Zealand and SE Asia. It's stated aim is to "set people free" from sex trafficking. It is a charitable trust and non governmental organization with a loosely Christian base. It includes ex NZ policemen.

As I have been warning Asian's...They are coming to destroy Asia as they have destroyed the west....They would love to make Thailand a Christian country devoid of any fun whatsoever

Out of all the races on Earth...Why are you not surprised ...Its the white man NGO that finally did you in

I had some perfect blissful nirvana like experiences at nataree. The girls i picked treated me like a chinese emperor. They gave me a bubble bath and massaged me and gave me tender kisses on the mouth. I thought i was dreaming. :)

Arent these massage soapy parlors paid up with the right people in terms of bribes? Why would they shut down a place just for a few minor violations? Why not just impose penalties for the underaged girls and go?

Why would thai authorities comply with western anti trafficking groups? Whats in it for them? Why would thai authorities let foreign powers tell them what to do? I thought thais were too proud of their own culture?

They probably are paid up, but did you read article? It's a foreign, western NGO that is coming in and shaking things up. As someone above mentioned, it is probably a western feminist organisation, as most NGOs that deal with human trafficking tend to be.

This is no different than anywhere else in Asia, buckling under pressure from the west, usually USA, and changing their own laws.
