The 80s: Was it the last decade America had soul?

Post by GoingAwol »

I was born in 1991, but I grew up with a lot of 80s tv shows, movies, and music. It seems to me that a lot of wholesome and innocent movies, tv shows , and music came out during that decade. Since then, it's been all down hill. When you hear 80s songs like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5Ua835sudU you get that warm fuzzy feeling in your chest. Doesn't this song remind you of christmas with its warmth and coziness? Ballads like this were a dime a dozen in the 80s. It seems like there was still a lot of romance in the 80s, but today everything is so vapid and shallow. As far as I know, there hasn't been any songs like that one for the past fifteen to twenty years. I got on youtube today and this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsJLLEwUYZM has over 250 million views. WTF America?

The 80s was the last great American decade. Everything after that just went down the toilet. For the younger folks on the forum, most of them weren't even born during this time.

I was an immigrant to the U.S., but you could feel the positive energy and optimism of this decade. Sure, it was the beginning of the 'Greed decade' and the woman were beginning to change for the worse, but it wasn't as bad as the 90s and onwards. Bullying and racism were still big problems, though, and crime was terrible, but even with those problems, I would love to go back during that time.

A big credit has to go towards Ronald Reagan. Yeah, he was flawed, and silenced after the assassination attempt by the NWO, but he still did a decent job being President. He was better than bums like Bush Jr. and Sr. or Obama, that's for sure!

The 80s wasn't the decade America lost its soul; it was the decade where it was apparent that America HAD lost its soul.

Personally I think the 90's weren't bad yet. The decline may have begun in the late eighties, but it slid off the slope somewhere int eh 90's.

I thought the 90's were a great decade for American culture, a lot of Indie movies, music, some of the best TV shows to come out from that country was in that decade. It was far superior to the 1980's culturally.

I think the 90's were great for the music scene and indie film, but when it comes to TV, I think nothing beats right now. I am including Netflix and Cable original shows in that. While movies have seriously gone downhill, I think some of the best aspects of 80's and 90's movies are happening on TV now. The 90's saw great things happen in the world of music, but I think MP3 and downloading killed the mainstream industry. I suspect the good stuff is now spread thinly all over the internet and very difficult to find.

It's mind boggling how much America has changed(not necessarily for the better) since the late 90's to the early 2000's alone let alone the 80's.

The 80's were the last decade that America had "soul" both literally and figuratively. :D

wHAT GOT RAMPED UP iN THE 80'S ?, it was the debt system running completely backwards made possible by the petro $ for the US where we outsource our ability to take care of ourselves locally. What happened in the late eighties as well was the S n L scandal where the banks started cheating the system bad right in front of our noises, we still had a functioning system to a degree with rule of law so alot of them went to jail but no more.

Most other countries have been enslaved to this as well but because their standard of life was not good anyway they really have not complained to much because they do not know better, let them see how America used to live then they will complain.. The net has made this possible and is getting the truth out every second of everyday but still most are to inept to put all the pieces together and see the hidden credit system as our real ruler.......

The money runs EVERYTHING PERIOD!.

The socialist system is totally unnatural and especially for the ECO, we are all being placed on the debt tread wheel from the day we are born to the day we die as a renter class through the back door but we are told it's freedom through the front door.

As stated most are just plain dumb and cannot see how this affects them from the moment they are born, women vote for resources and perceived security. They vote for big brother because big brother has captured most of the world wide resources to support them.

This creates a problem for the individual male who wants to spread his genes even if consciously not realizing or knowing it. It's a worldwide corporate structure they operate outside of that is putting the boot on the males primarily and in the process affects everything we turn out day to day in our lives.......

Everything else you guys talk about is just window fluff and that is what they want.

You could see real people on TV and in the movies in the 80s and even 90s. You don't see that today. The soul was killed as soon as feminism, no-fault divorce, child support, and frivorce became the law of the land. It took the vestiges of a genuine soul time to die.

All that was erected thru the bankruptcy to the bank which took place in 1933..........

You certainly can say that again! The first song you linked is a typical one from the 80s; soft, sexy, and happy. The second one you posted here is more like a rap song than anything. And you can tell that rap is really spreading like a cancer all over America. I'm even getting reports of, as one Facebook guy from either Fort Myers or Lehigh Acres says, "about 90 percent of the clubs here are playing only rap as their new mainstream!" It is not just vapid and shallow, it's downright violent and murderous. Reportedly, even high schools across the country have switched to rap as their new mainstream.

Unfortunately, rap is here to stay. No amount of complaining will make it go away; in fact, it will only make it worse. America herself is married directly to the devil. There is no hope whatsoever. Even when people say that terrorists and people who blow up buildings listen to rap; if America wants to become even a thousand times more dangerous than Afghanistan with terrorist bombings, shootouts, and such, there is really nothing that can be done other than get out of America.

Revelation 17:3-6 And the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, where I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet colored beast that was covered in blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was dressed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls. She held in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. On her forehead a mysterious name was written; Babylon the Great, the mother of prostitutes and the abominations of the Earth. I could see that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints and the witnesses for Jesus. And I was greatly astonished at the sight of her.

In a way, 21st Century America looks and sounds exactly like that woman riding the red 7-headed dragon!

The 50s.

I would have to agree with this. A national poll was taken that said the happiest Americans have ever been was in 1957. America was at its peak in the 50s, and back then people all around the world wanted to be American and foreigners greatly respected American servicemen.

Starting in the 1960s was the start of the overall decline. In the 60s crime exploded due to hard drugs such as heroin being pumped into the U.S. cities and by the time the 80s came this country was a major mess due to crack cocaine.

Looking at those 80s videos are great, but remember during that time in real life many people were strung out on drugs (including Whitney Houston) or they were about contract HIV and subsequently face a horrible death from AIDS
