Our religious figures never existed?

Post by ladislav »

Very interesting theories and something that I have been suspecting for a long time- that most modern religious scriptures might be just beautiful legends with mythical characters, just like Greek mythologies. They are meant to be taken symbolically and read between the lines, and not as historical facts.

This is all very interesting:

My own take on Jesus is that there was probably indeed an Essene teacher (or teachers) who bear some semblance to the Jesus in the Gospel, but many of the dates and details are different in reality.

Esoteric teachings concerning how to reach God inwardly via meditation and other methods are usually hidden within heavy symbolism and methology.

Jesus spoke in parables to an ignorant population. In contrast, Buddha lived in a culture that already was familiar with meditation, so he spoke directly about the mind and how it works. At one point, the Buddha made a distinction between esoteric and exoteric knowledge, and explicitly stated that his teaching were exoteric, meaning spoken without requiring secret knowledge and freely available to all. Jesus didn’t say anything significant that the Buddha hadn’t already said 600 years before. But, Jesus most likely discovered the Dharma independently using his own tradition. The Gospels were written long after Jesus died, and express the beliefs of Paul, and so more accurately should be called Paulinism and not Christianity. The Gospels (actually the ancient word for “Propaganda) could have added in information from Buddhism (as suggested by one of the articles posted above), as they also incorporated the Virgin Mary story and other well known myths at that time, to bolster their claims.
