Is facebook making us more lonely?

Post by jamesbond »

Here is an interesting article I found talking about whether or not facebook is making people more lonely and disconnected than ever before. Here are some excerpts from the aricle:

"Facebook arrived in the middle of a dramatic increase in the quantity and intensity of human loneliness, a rise that initially made the site’s promise of greater connection seem deeply attractive. Americans are more solitary than ever before. In 1950, less than 10 percent of American households contained only one person. By 2010, nearly 27 percent of households had just one person."

“Studies have shown, the greater the proportion of face-to-face interactions, the less lonely you are, the greater the proportion of online interactions, the lonelier you are.â€￾

I hardly ever use Facebook. Much of what goes on there is pointless twaddle and narcissism. Although it is interesting sometimes to see people I know and what they're up to.

Biggest problem I have with FB is the mixing of different groups of friends.

Some post on issues way too much, may be too much for others (and for me).

Result is a mix that is good for little.

Yeah makes people really lonely.

My friend told me a wealthy man told her that people don't talk to eachother here in America. And they are so lonely they use Facebook to talk to each other.

100% truth right there.

I'm personally wanting to move away from Facebook now as I can not obtain new friends because Facebook thinks I am a spammer for asking for friend requests from foreign people. Ouch.

Have you guys ever seen what women talk about on FB? Complete crap. The worst thing that ever happened to women is the internet. It gave them a place to say what is on their mind where men could read it....and its pretty disgusting when you do.

I do a lot of online communication....I had the sense of loneliness when I first disowned my former children....but after a while I got used to being alone. Now I really love it and I have no idea how I survived 20 years with a wife and 4 kids......well 2 came later.....

A man who feels lonely is just a man who can not stand his own company.

The BIGGEST fear women have is being alone. They HATE being alone. And they fear being alone in old age. That is why they project the "you will be old and alone" story on to men. If I did not want to be alone I would get a flatmate....but I prefer being alone.

This is quite true, women have the hardest time being alone. Thus, there will be a host of angry Betty Whites, in the decades ahead, when even their gal pals get sick of them. My sister is now entering that category, where nearly everyone is sick of her histrionics.

On the other shoe, when properly coached... men have it easy in this dept. Plus, when AI/Robotics becomes strong, in let's say 10-15 years, we'll have no problems generating automatrons, with which we can have regular conversations with. In general, I spend my free time with my guy friends and then, go to Montreal for GFE escorts. I don't need a woman in my life anymore. The only purpose of having women acquaintances around, is to gather corporate gossip but that's about it.
