Well, a lot of money and investments is moving to Asia. Did you hear about the story of Eduardo Saverin (originally a Brazilian and one of the founders of Facebook) and him renouncing his U.S. citizenship for Singapore? A lot of rich and wealthy people are moving to Central and South America, Asia, and New Zealand for some reason? They must have some advanced knowledge of something coming up soon?

working and wages

8) Most people from foreign countries have been going to the us for centurys because of the wages.. Now with high unemployment and unless highly skilled the us may not be the best place for low skillled people. There are many illegals that stand around for months at a time and many end up incarcerated here in the us. The way industry is relocating overseas will continue to have a high grown and the us less growth unless economic policy changes with tarrifs or incentives. If a head count of who was working and who was collecting ss in california there would be more collecting then working because that state rewards people so well for collecting ss while there is no such thing in most 3rd world places or no alimony or child support. The us will probobly collapse and turn into a stazi type society with this many people not producing unless policys change here.

In Thailand it's pretty easy to get a job that requires unskilled labor for around 3,000-7,000 baht a month or so. That's only $100-250 or so in today's exchange rate. Manual labor jobs or domestic household jobs are so plentiful that most Thais get Burmese or Laotians to do it because most Thais have better options. That seems like a pathetic sum but it's not too bad for a country bumpkin who has little education and may have very little overhead expenses since they're living in a room with others.

New college grads usually get around 10,000 baht or so up to 15,000 ($500) a month. From there it levels off at around 20,000 for the sexy students working in downtown jobs. Once again not too bad for a 20-21 year old kid with little living expenses in their life.

When you get to real middle class Thai type incomes 30,000-60,000 that's when jobs are much rarer to find. They are still obtainable though especially with advanced degrees and experience. You can still live very comfortably in the middle class considering that most Thais have inherited houses and property passed down to them.

So, even though wages in a country like Thailand are quite shitty overall people aren't totally unemployed and most of the service and lower level office type jobs are so laid back it's ridiculous. I know Thais that constantly bounce from job to job looking for the easiest one with the best hours.

This is also why I don't really buy into the whole story about Thai girls being desperate in Thailand. It's actually easy to find blue or white collar employment. They just won't be able to live the clubs, malls, and whiskey lifestyle everyday. I think the relatively "big" money temptation of being a whore is an easy choice for a culture that is very materialistic and doesn't give much too much thought in consequences. Even if a girl is from upcountry and her family is totally impoverished a few thousand baht every month could easily keep them afloat. It's ridiculously cheap to live out in the boonies.
