First off Dave's is a psycho joint!! But you have probably already realized that.

I don't teach English but my understanding is that basically any warm body can get a job. I'm not suggesting you falsify your credentials but the fact is they just need a native speaker who is willing to travel. Get your resume nice, do whatever you feel comfortable doing, do interviews and find a business you trust, make a deal. In Korea for example there are hagwons (small private shops). If the owner believes in you you're in. Do good by them and they will do good by you, for the most part. Koreans are quite honest and honorable.

Anyhow just saying where there is a will there is a way. In Seoul I can call around and check a persons rep if you get a potential deal lined up. Some teachers hate KR by the way, there is China which has advantages but pay is lower. Good luck!

Its happened to me at least 3 times, 2 Filipinas and 1 Thai. First, you need to meet a lot of Asian women online, maybe one out of 500 will qualify. Women over the age of 30 with kids will be the most likely candidates. Just ask the women you chat with if they have a family business and if theres enough chemistry between you, you can make it work.

Thank you, appreciate the input! I'll do whatever I have to do to get out... but the thought of having to wait years to finish a degree makes it hard to keep going sometimes LOL. I'll probably wind up getting a CELTA and going somewhere to teach, then finish the degree from abroad. Then go from there.

Ain't that the truth. I have found that I really can't be around married/divorced guys who have kids because they start to come off resentful and jealous as soon as they find out I'm single with no kids. They get mad at my carefree life and try to make me feel guilty about it as if I'm not living up to my potential or something.

Just to add to that, Western men, in particular, have been programmed to make a woman the focal point of their lives. This is why after, say, 28, if you're still single people start to view you with suspicion.

It's not just foreign women. Many Americans look at you all weird if you even associate with foreign families, men, children, and what not.

So one day, I was just about to board a flight to Mexico City, and met a group of single American women in their 20's - all college students. Two were Korean Americans, and the rest were white. They were going on a typical touristy trip to Teotihuacan, Xochimilco, etc. They were easy to chat up at first, and we talked about school, our trip plans, and other topics. I told them I was going to visit a family in an ejido (ranch) in rural Veracruz, and pulled out some laminated photos of the family's relatives living up north. I showed them to one of the white American women.

Guess how she reacted.

From a bubbly friendliness to a sudden frown and scowl. "How do you know these people?"
"Oh, I just knew them in Tijuana. I easily make a lot of new friends in Mexico."
"Oh yeah?"
"Well, the family doesn't have any computers or mail services, so I'm doing them a favor by taking these pictures down. The mother hasn't seen her sons in years and has no idea what they look like now."
Then she says very flatly and sarcastically, "That's great."

She suddenly turns her back away. End of conversation. The way these women cut off their friendliness was so incredibly abrupt, and made no sense.

Despite the fact that they were willing to tour around Mexico, they were disgusted by the fact that I would be deeply involved with the poor, peasant underclass.

Of course, I didn't bother to tell them that I even had a significant other in Mexico, let alone show them pictures of her.

Did they happen to mention where in the U.S. they were from?

Southern California. Same city I'm from, by coincidence (PM me for the exact location). They're partly the reason I had left in the first place ...
