Momopi, why do people cling to words of a pathological liar?

Post by Winston »

For some reason, when presented with the overwhelming evidence against the official 9/11 conspiracy theory, many react with ridicule and denial rather than objectivity and rationality. People seem to have some weird psychological block that prevents them from applying reason to the subject.

Oddly, they religiously cling to George Bush's conspiracy theory of 9/11 with unquestioning faith despite the fact that Bush is a proven pathological liar who has pretty much lied even about everything, even the smallest things (e.g. claiming to see the first plane hit the first tower on TV on 9/11 when that footage wasn't aired til 9/12). People seem to have some deep psychological need to believe the official story. It's very odd and irrational. They religiously cling to the words of a known pathological liar in the face of overwhelming evidence, data, testimonials, and scientific facts.

I'm glad to be free of such madness. Are you?

From psychological profile point of view, people who believe in one elaborate conspiracy theory is likely to believe in another, versus those who don't, simply don't. Those who believe in conspiracy theories think those who don't to be blind to the "truth". And those who don't believe in conspiracy theories consider those who do to be mentally deficient people looking for someone to blame for their own issues. The end result is that even if a single conspiracy theory is proven to be true, those who routinely believe in such things still won't receive any respect, because the nonbelievers think that they simply got lucky and not because they had any real evidence to begin with.

The 9/11 truth movement is self-undermining. If their goal is to re-open the 9/11 investigation, the marketing campaign should look like (example) a poster with half of a police report, and the caption "WHERE IS THE OTHER HALF?". All you need is to convince the public that the previous report was incomplete. Since the investigation cost money, the 9/11 truth movement could ask for donations and collect $50 from 1 million Americans -- that's $50 million dollars, and offer to pay for the 2nd investigation at no cost to tax payers. Since you're paying, you get to have more say on how it should be done. That's it. If you spin conspiracy theories, you'll lose critical support from the populace.

Another issue is time. All issues, topics, events, etc. have a time-limit to its relevance. When Bush Jr. invaded Iraq, the newspapers published body counts in the front pages and it had the public attention. Today it's just another number. The body count got dragged too long and people lost sensitivity and interest. I had some interest in 9/11 from 2001 to 2004. I don't give a flying f*ck today and the topic is ad nauseam.

Ad nauseam: a Latin term used to describe an argument which has been continuing "to [the point of] nausea". For example, the sentence "This topic has been discussed ad nauseam" signifies that the topic in question has been discussed extensively and that those involved in the discussion are sick and tired of it.

Now have a look at this:

This, is a circle-jerk by people who flunked marketing 101. You're marketing to the public, not yourselves.
