I asked a friend of mine who works in Taiwan/Beijing/Shanghai (he travels a lot) to keep an eye open for US-China traveling jobs for me.
He said that there is currently high demand for experienced petro engineers willing to work on contract basis, with "almost European pay rate". I'm not sure exactly what that means, but in the US, petro engineers get paid $60k to $200k/year depending on experience and position.
