I've heard lots of horror stories about the portion sizes in America I'm looking forward to seeing for myself one day.

As someone who has been slim her whole life, I think that eating sensibly and keeping active is all you need to do.

I have never dieted in my life and eat everything I want to, including cakes, ice cream, etc., but I focus on good quality food and don't go overboard.

Trying to think of things that might help me stay slim despite eating what I want...

- I never eat anything sweet unless it's after a meal. So at the most I have two sweet things a day, one after lunch and one after dinner. These can be a bar of chocolate, small cake, yogurt, etc.

- I always buy fresh food every day. I never eat frozen food or canned food. Dinner is always salad with some form of meat. Lunch is usually a sandwich. Fresh food is living food, more satisfying and more full of nutrients. And don't fill up too much on grains.

- Bodies are designed to move. Running is a great form of exercise that clears your mind and helps you to see a bit of nature. Sometimes a skipping rope for 10 minutes is all you need if you are stuck inside the house.

- Care about yourself. If you care about and have respect for your body you will want it at peak condition. Don't allow yourself to get unhealthy or fat, do something about it at the first sign.

Yeah the portions are large in America. But you can just eat til you're full and then take the rest home as take-out. The thing is though, that the food in restaurants is not organic. It contains processed ingredients, chemicals and GMO's.

Some questions:

Is it true that carbohydrates are what causes people to become fat, and not fat itself?

Is cheese good for you? Is it fattening? I eat a lot of it so I am wondering about this.

Is wheat good for you? If so, is it ok to eat wheat or multi-grain bread, or is all bread bad for you?

I heard that coffee is fattening. But what if you just drink it black without adding anything? Is that ok?
