One thing that has been really strange to me, is seeing how long it took for boomers to take far left wokeism seriously. Because I've been on the internet, I remember that the culture war basically started in 2014. 2014 was the year that kicked off Gamergate and people started noticing how the far left, woke mob was trying to destroy all entertainment and twist it into propaganda vehicles. This caused a major surge in right-leaning liberalism from 2014 to about 2019 or so. People really liked seeing right-leaning people who were gay or trans or whatever to prove to the left that they weren't homophobic, racist, or sexist, they just hated political correctness.
And I remember from 2014-2019, that boomers were blissfully unaware of the woke, SJWs existence. When I talk to boomers today, they talk about 2018 for example, as if that year was free of wokeness and that nobody was pushing the non-binary gender stuff or claiming to be gender neutral and crap like that. Meanwhile, I'm like, "wtf? People have been making fun of that shit since I was in high school back in 2014." I remember in 2014 hearing all of my peers saying stuff like "yeah I identify as an apache attack helicopter!" One of my friends at the time would joke and say "did you just assume my gender?" Or he would say "one day I can be a 80 year old woman! And tomorrow, I'll be a three year old baby! I can identify however I want!" He said this kind of stuff in a very mocking way.
At the same time, when I was in high school, I did know two girls who did not believe gender was a real thing and advocated the whole non-binary crap along with the pronouns. Keep in mind, this was like 2014-2015 or so. In 2020, it seems like the boomers finally became aware of the woke ideology. Now they are terrified of it the same way that zoomers were back in the 2014-2019 era. Nowadays, all the "anti-SJWs" of the mid-late 2010s either graduated into real conservatives, or they became leftists. Nowadays, you don't really see many anti-SJW zoomers or millennials left. Nowadays it seems like the boomers are more into the anti-woke, anti-SJW obsessions while the young conservatives are more focused on destroying liberalism entirely.
I would also say that from 2014-2020, I was genuinely scared of woke ideology. I did feel like it was taking over the country and every year it seemed to just be getting worse.
Nowadays, however, I really don't take the woke stuff seriously anymore. People think that woke ideology is growing out of control because they are just hearing about it, but I've been hearing about this shit since 2014. I was actually doxed by a rabidly insane feminist back in 2015 which is basically what lead me down the whole anti-feminism path. Overall, however, I really don't think woke culture is any worse now then it was back in 2015 or 2016. I've worked at three different companies, and have easily worked with well over 100 people between all these companies since graduating college and have yet to meet a single crazy woke person who actually takes the whole "gender neutral" non-binary crap seriously. I haven't met a single transgender person at any of the companies I worked for nor have I met anybody who identified as one of the fake genders. Even the moderate leftists really stand out from everybody else, but the truly far left, woke people I see on LibsOfTikTok would seem like an alien creature to all of my co-workers.
What is perhaps more shocking to me, is the amount of people who still don't even know what woke culture is. Nobody that I know seems to have ever met someone who actually claimed to be gender neutral or non-binary or something like that unless they moved here from a very blue state. If anything, people actually seem a lot more politically incorrect around where I live now then they did 7 years ago.
And I also notice that the older boomers here seem to do a lot of hand wringing about woke culture. What I would say to them is this, don't worry about woke culture. This stuff has been going on for a lot longer then you think it has been and I have not noticed it get any worse then it was 7 or 8 years ago. The only real difference I've seen is the news media actually reports on it now whereas it didn't back then. But that doesn't necessarily mean it is more popular, its just that the country as a whole is more aware of its existence. In most areas of the country, however, it is still a very fringe ideology.
What I am far more concerned about is ghetto culture taking over. I have definitely seen an increase in the number of people with tattoos around, as well as generally trashy behavior. I am stunned by the number of adults I meet now who curse like high schoolers. Back in high school and college, it seemed like 70% of the population was trying to act ghetto. And I get that plenty of people grow out of that, but I find that ghetto culture is much more threatening, much more popular, and has a much much stronger hold on young people's minds then woke culture does.
