What happened to ball room dances where you can meet women?

I don't understand something. In movies they always show these romantic elegant ball room dancing events where single men can meet single women, and where the women are very enthusiastic about meeting eligible men. These movies usually cover the time period of either the 1800's or early 1900's. They make it look like such ball room dancing events were so common everywhere.

Where are they today? What happened? How come America doesn't have them anymore? Does Europe still have them?

They looked like great places to meet women. But nowadays, there is no place in modern America where single women are open and enthusiastic about meeting men. Thus there is no true singles scene in America.

I wish I could dress up in romantic Victorian clothes and go to such events to meet elegant women. Since I'm very romantic, they appeal to me especially.

Below are images of what I'm talking about.

Man, I really don't know.

Society is different now and nothing's going to change that.

This style of dancing has been all but replaced by "freak dancing". What you are looking for, by and large, is a relic of a bygone era.

Ballroom dancing still exists, but as a niche thing or as a professional performance.

You may be able to find some classes somewhere, though. May as well try it. It could be a way to meet some intelligent, cultured women (don't get your hopes up though).

If you want to dance, you have to focus on getting in shape. This will make you agile and a better dancer. If you're weak or pudgy, learning to dance will be harder than it would be if you were in good shape.

Your right there is NO true singles scene in America (outside of bars and nightclubs). No wonder why the PUA scene is so big in America, how else can a guy meet a woman other than learning some pick up lines and doing cold approaching.

With the modern woman, such a thing would strike a negative chord on so many different levels:

1. They are very leery of strangers.
2. There is no guarantee that they can dance with only the Top 20 percentile of men.
3. They don't want to give off a false impression that dancing might lead to a date and/or future sexual activity.
4. Dancing compromises their invisible wall.
5. Until proven otherwise, many women believe men are creeps/rapists
6. Men and women take themselves so seriously that they can't relax enough to enjoy a fun and frivolous activity such as dancing.

What about square dancing? Are there towns in the deep south where there are public square dancing events where you can meet girls? What about country line dancing?

Getting in shape is not the problem. Some people just don't have the rhythm for dancing, even when they are thin.

But being in shape is more than being thin. You can be thin and still be weak and uncoordinated.

Some people have a natural talent for dancing, but even if you don't have natural talent, you can still become a decent dancer with hard work, if you get in shape and dedicate yourself to it.

A lot of people don't have the natural talent for language, but they can learn a second or third language anyway. Most people don't have the knack for writing, but they can learn to write at least half-decently with practice.

Building leg muscles will improve your coordination and stamina. Without that, no one has any hope as a dancer.

Due to the popularity of shows like "Dancing with the Stars", folks today are blowing thousands of dollars on dance lessons at local dance studios. If you're willing to pay, it's not hard to meet women in dance classes. But for the money I'd rather take a vacation overseas.

A far cheaper option is to attend local community college dance classes.
