British family beaten by gang in Thailand

I don't condone the beating; but I find myself wondering if they were being a typical loud, destructive, drunken British mess like they so often do in Spain. Spaniards just grumble and curse them out for that sort of behavior; but they put up with it because "money talks", and Spain is broke and corrupt and unemployed. Thailand is a good bit more traditional and strict. They have cultural values that don't take kindly to Anglo-style bullshit.
