I just heard something that leads me to believe that, if you're white, you shouldn't go to the Philippines. Seems the muslims have been kidnapping people & the president was saying that there's a lot of strife between those muslims & the Catholics because of that (I guess the muslims don't like the Americans, which all whites get seen as, and they take this out on the Catholics). Any news on this?

There are some places you should avoid as a foreigner, especially in Southern Philippines. But otherwise?

Its just like you avoid Black Neighborhoods in America....Some places in America are not safe for White Americans...Some places in India are not safe for Muslims and vice versa...

Western Mindanao is the most dangerous part of the country. Do not go there! Also, parts of Manila are dangerous like Quezon City.

Yep, Duterte hates drugs, corrupt politicians and bent religious leaders. He doesn't have a problem with whites. The media portray him to be some kind of pyschopath but unlike most world leaders he actually gives a damn about the people.

I'm in Zamboanga right now. I haven't had any problems. Just kidding. It's a shame, Zamboanga is quite a nice city from what I've seen.

Thanks for the heads-up, guys! That Duterte doesn't seem all that "crazy"- just fierce & accurate about a lot of things. Don't know why he's as cranked-up about drugs, though. Are they that big of a problem there? I get how some dealers can be like mini-warlords & THAT would be a problem.

Um...I think you'll find Duterte is clamping down on the thieves AKA corrupt politicians, not helping them.
