Entitled Western trash begging in Thailand

Westerners begging is one thing but to do it in a poor country to fund their travels is another.

They should be deported and never allowed back and not before they've experienced time in a Thai jail. Deplorable!

I Gave money to a guy in Guatemala who had a help me sign, seen him a few weeks later in a different town with same sign, I approached him and said "i remember you" and he wouldnt speak to me, or look me in the eye.

Seen him out that night in a bar buying beers

Some years ago, a colleague of mine serving in a consular capacity at the US Embassy in Kiev reported to me that there was an epidemic of American men turning up at the embassy penniless and broken.

Some of these men fell victim to poor planning, some to scammers, and some to their own stupidity. But Western embassies around the world routinely issue assistance and loans to their countrymen to get them back home.

Although we don't address it here much, there is a sizable category of American/Western expat which is comprised of the proverbial "throwaways" back home. 90% of them are male who all exhibit some cocktail of mental illness, drug addiction, alcoholism, and/or pediphilia. Almost every embassy has a mental list of local Americans who periodically find themselves in trouble whether it is not taking their psychotropic medication, repeatedly ending up in jail, or being hospitalized (usually after being beaten to a pulp by transgressed locals).

But what they all have in common is that they were shunned by their families and communities back home and are the LEAST likely to thrive abroad in any meaningful way. They come abroad to start anew and are thrilled by their initial acceptance. But those who are abject failures at home usually do no better abroad.

Living abroad is a game for men who have already had some measure of success at home which can buttress their existence abroad. Self-development at home is a prerequisite to thriving abroad and there are no shortcuts (unless you were just born into wealth, privilege and a higher than average dose of good sense).

What I see in the photo are attractive young white guys who are preying upon the sympathies of locals to modestly cash in. People truly out of money have it wired from someone, seek embassy help, or enlist the assistance of some NGO like Red Cross, Catholic Charities, etc. Bumming it on the street is panhandling for profit so you can save your money for your vices.

Visiting Thailand and Philippines frequently, I have seen such Western men living in the street asking locals and foreigners for money.
These foreign beggars do not want to go home - they want to stay as long as possible abroad, despite they are out of money and their visa is expired.

I never give anything to such irresponsible and ignorant people. If you give something to them it will be used only to buy alcohol, cigarettes or drugs.

Last month a German man was arrested, he was living 19 years illegally in Thailand, don't ask me how he managed to survive.
On Wednesday, Pol Maj Gen Surachat Hakparn, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau announced the arrest of 35 foreigners who were caught for visa offences, illegal entry and other crimes.

Among those arrested was German national Eugen Karl Mullerschon, 60, who was caught in Trang where he was found to have overstayed for a whopping 7,059 days, almost nineteen years and four months.
The lesson to learn is easy, always when you are traveling abroad make sure you have an escape route if something is going wrong. At least an e-ticket for the airplane and a valid passport/and never overstay your visa. A cashcard and a little money in your banking account at home is also useful if something happens to you abroad - ATMs are now almost everywhere...

Yes, true, most Western embassies will help you with a one-way passport and a single way ticket to go home if you can still identify yourself somehow.

I think it's an offence to give money to beggars in the Philippines.

Holy shit!! How did he do it? If anything he should of wrote a book of how to survive.

Being successful is not easy. It takes work and sacrifice. If your successful at home it's possible you can make it over seas too. I mean not always though.

In Cebu City this rule is only in some designated areas.

I think, some places like within 50 m of a school and hospital for example and some touristic spots like the Lapu-Lapu monument park in Mactan and within the airport area... but not everywhere of course, as the half city is anyway nothing but a slum...

Some other areas are restricted by private guards, like the large shopping malls or the ferry port terminal, they are anyway off-limits for beggars and street children.

Places like the Carbon Market are full with thieves, beggars and street children...
