Chicago, Illinois. A great place to leave.

Chicago is the pinnacle of the gangster thug life and a toxic social desert. In the Chicago metro area, there are but 2 lifestyles.

First is the gangster life.
Chicago proper is a horribly violent city. Worse than Detroit and as bad as the northern half of St. Louis. Everywhere east of Illinois Route 50/Cicero Avenue is one huge endless hood from Lawrence Avenue all the way south to the Will County border, even including Governor's State University. Even Downtown Chicago is an extremely bad neighborhood. Chicago has the most totally unsafe public transit system on Earth, with CTA buses and trains getting shot up by ruthless armed flash mobs that then swarm right in and rob everyone on board. Every day, people get shot, murdered, mugged, and robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight and even indoors. Shootings are a daily occurrence at the United Center, the Museum of Science and Industry, McCormick Place, the Museum Campus area, even at Shedd Aquarium, Soldier Field, Wrigley Field, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Chicago, Loyola University downtown, Lincoln Park Zoo, Guaranteed Rate field (formerly U.S. Cellular Field/Comiskey Park), Oak Street Beach, Navy Pier, and all over Michigan Avenue including the so-called "Magnificent Mile." Even popular restaurants like the original Home Run Inn across from Piotrowski Park, Pompei in Little Italy, and others are absolutely unsafe and see nothing but shootings, gang/mob violence, and robberies, even in broad daylight.

And second is the all-work-no-play (workaholic) business-only life.
The danger of violence may be off once you cross into Berwyn, but now you get into Illinois' second life of misery. That is correct, it's the all-business life of Chicagoland west of Illinois Route 50/Cicero Avenue. It is also the harsh social desert of Northern Illinois. And the farther west you go, the worse it gets. Northern Illinois is a heavily anti-social, racist, hateful, soulless place to be. Once you cross into DuPage County and go through suburbs such as Elmhurst, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Downers Grove, Naperville, and Batavia, you can literally feel the toxic fakeness of society and a zero tolerance policy for strangers. You can never even approach within 25 feet of, let alone interact with, strangers in DuPage County, Illinois. Every single communication that occurs at all in DuPage County is strictly for business only. Anything non-business is grounds for police involvement. It's practically a felony for women to talk to guys in Berwyn. There is no fun to have in DuPage, it's strictly workaholic and business-only, like the proverbial hamster on the wheel. And you can see it in the still non-renovated, non-rebuilt (and fenced off) ruins of Ebenezer Floppen Slopper's Wonderful Water slides/Doc River's Roaring Rapids water park on Roosevelt and 83, which is visible both on YouTube and Google Satellite, and the fact that Kiddie Kingdom (where the Oakbrook Terrace Tower now stands) has never been rebuilt elsewhere. And the default hatred you can feel in DuPage County is far worse than you ever felt in the city. In Chicago proper, kids in many neighborhoods play outside, even though gang activity can be occurring a block away. In DuPage County, nobody, not even adults, ever go outside except when going to/from work and school. Nobody ever plays outside in DuPage County even though gang/mob activity is nowhere nearby. They keep indoors and hate the entire outdoors with heavy disdain. All they care about is the same schedule repeating every day, all 365 days a year (get up, have breakfast, shower, go to work, come home, have dinner, clean, and go to bed), a schedule literally drawn and written on a scroll and wrapped around the exterior of a 24 hour hamster wheel. And I also hear it's all the same in Lake County, Illinois, too.

You can never even interact with anyone anywhere in Chicago's collar county area unless it is strictly business-related at popular places like Oak Brook Mall, Yorktown Mall, College of DuPage, the DuPage County Fair, Elmhurst College, Enchanted Castle, Safari Land, FermiLab, not even at Six Flags Great America or Gurnee Mills, not at Woodfield Mall, and certainly not at North Riverside Mall, either. And forget about even taking a bike trip through the country towns of Northern Illinois, even including Sycamore, DeKalb, Byron, Oregon, Yorkville, Ottawa, Freeport, Kankakee, even in places as far flung as Peoria. The people even in those small towns are nothing but closed off with a zero tolerance policy towards strangers.

The only reason to ever even visit the Chicagoland area is to go to Six Flags Great America. Otherwise if you live there, all there ever is to do other than be a workaholic is hang out at shopping malls, supermarkets, parks, and forest preserves. The only place that has any really good nightlife (live music, DJs, etc) and that is safe to go to is Tavern on LaGrange.

Chicago is one of the worst cities to live in, in all of North America. Not only are the women crap, the winters are horrible, the cost of living is outrageous the crime is through the roof and the traffic is horrifying!

Then again, all big cities in America are basically the same.

Chicagoland of course was not always like that. Even Berwyn used to be a much friendlier town. And I could literally see the collapse of the social atmosphere even at Berwyn's Morton West High School. The classes of 95 and 96 had a lot of friendly, down-to-Earth students. The Class of 97, it started sliding. And from the Class of 98 onwards, I could literally see as each new class became more and more fake, phony, plastic, and socially disconnected. The Classes of 2001 and 2002 had the worst students, nothing but fake, immature kids, most of the kids in the Class of 2002 were downright toxic, as were even a few in the Class of 1999. I could literally see the entire social atmosphere in Berwyn turning over like the fictional S.S. Poseidon as it was struck by the rogue wave. Even as early as the Fall of 1997, I felt a sudden social vacuum at Morton West High School, and high school no longer felt like paradise anymore after the Class of 97 graduated. Not to mention in Fall of 1997, Morton cheerleaders and pom pons were banned from hugging while in uniform. In Fall of 1999, they were banned from talking to guys while in uniform. About 2003, even the Berwyn Rec Center and Pavek Pool on 31st and East Avenue no longer felt welcoming anymore as the social atmosphere in Berwyn continued to crumble. Over a decade later in 2011, I had noticed that Morton's Hoffman Stadium during football games was no longer open seating anymore. Students were crammed like sardines into just two sections of the bleachers while alumni and parents were put in other separate sections to eliminate any possibility of mingling.

I lived in Chicago for many years, and while I have great memories of my younger days (and for the most part enjoyed my time), I am glad I moved on.

Pervasive thug culture, high taxes, high crime, awful weather, joke of a public transit system, so so women, aggressive panhandlers, ghetto schools... I can go on. And don't forget the fact that the whole city (as well as the rest of IL) is also financial ticking time bomb with its underfunded pensions and massive debts.

Right now I am in China w/my wife visiting her family. We are in a very low-tier city that no American would know of unless they spent a lot of time in China. My wife regularly takes the bus back to our hotel alone at night and I don't have a single worry. In Chicago I would be uncomfortable with her taking public transit during the day due to the amount of young aggressive thugs and piece of shit homeless vagabonds infesting the buses and trains.

As a native New "Yaaaawkkah" currently based out of Chicago when in the USA (I'm abroad in India at the moment), I can say that when I first came to Chicago when Club, House, & Techno music were beginning to die down (Chicago used to be known for it...like producers Steve "Silk" Hurley and etc, 5AM clubs, cheap 3-dollar monster burritos, more Puerto Ricans in Chicago proper - a lot got flushed out from gentrification to the immediate western Chicagoland suburbs or to East Chicago/NWIndiana and Lorrain, Ohio/Cleveland, OH), it was on-part to the 80s/90s NYC club scene: partying...gettijng ONS with women straight from the club....relationships beginning from the club...Mexican-American and Puerto Rican women actively looking for new dick and loving NYer's (e.g. "Wow you're from NY??? Let me suck your dick, baby").

Since the dirty south took over culturally and musically in the U.S. of Gay, Trap music has been big in Chicago for the last 7, 8 years, so Chicago women are no longer impressed by NYC at the slightest. There are at least THREE Chicago stations that play Trap music as if it were gong out of style. Trap music (not really TrapSoul is a subpar attempt of "real" R&B over Trap music) really reflects the gangsta Chicago theme that another poster brought up earlier on this thread.

Also since Obama became "the 44th", Chicago became more institutionally racist. When Bush Jr. was "the 43rd", Chicago Puerto Ricans and Mexicans/Mexican-Americans were pretty chill and down with dating inter-racially and sometimes miscegenation. Trump in office hasn't changed those bigoted/"viva la raza"-nationalist attitudes unfortunately.

Very good! No cointelpro on which city and province you're in. Keep that sh*t to yourself so that things stay cheap, non-toxic. That's why I won't tell onliners which city in India I'm in where things arenn't as toxic and on the beaten path like Goa, Mumbai, and New Delhi.

I spent almost 2 weeks in India a while back (on business) and loved the trip, although I only stayed in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Loved the trip and would love to go back and spend a few months there.

And re: where I'm at now, there are (literally) dozens of third-tier Chinese cities like the one I'm in. I think there's still a lot of good women in China but you absolutely must avoid women in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu etc.

And forget about staying in China and making a life here if you do settle down with a nice woman - being a foreigner in China was always a bit of a challenge unless you lived in one of the major metro areas. Even then there were lots of minor annoyances. It's much worse now, and living in a lower-tier city off the beaten path will require advanced Mandarin or a native Chinese wife to do nearly everything for you. So we live in the US for now but will split our time between the US and China once we retire.

The sacred cow thing is reality here. India, well at least where I am, have the nicest street dogs ever. Try walking by a pack of street dogs in Mexico and see what happens. You cannot touch the cows unless you are a villager transporting them. Even then, they touch the cows with a bamboo stick. My appreciation for them has gone up but I will still get a fcukin beef cheeseburger when I go to Thailand in a couple of weeks. I need those amino acidic carcinogens, man. hahahaha If one has gout anywhere on their body, come to India for two months, and I am willing to bet that most if not all of it will go away!! Their chicken butter masala is king! Chai minty tea - so good - scarfing down piles of basamti rice with meats and sauce - no weight gain - cheap as fcuk too! Woot woot! Nothing tastes better than meat - shellfish/mariscos, white meat like turkey or chicken or red meat including deer, horse, and goat/lamb/mutton. White meat like pork is gross unless it's salami, bologna, or hybrid meat products like pork-beef franks, then I cannot stomach it literally. I became semi-pork nitrate intolerant over the years I don't know why.

Some Indian women are indeed feminist, but being of lighter hue skin will mitigate and recalibrate that problem. They loathe dark people in self-hate IMHO. Never call them Black or African especially. I joked around with a Dravidian-Desi pro, and even when I called her Negro after she tried to call me an African (I look like Pierre (from Bill Bellamy's "How To Be A Player" movie/Shang the American comedians - do they look African????), she looked at me a bit stunned and hurt so yeah be careful.

Yeah I want to go to China at a Tier III city level but I want to get intermediate Mandarin first. I don't feel right going to a Tier III or lesser city in China without that. It's not a prerequisite, but I feel out of respect and out of experience, it'll help massively. The only Tier II/I city I'll go outside of their airport is Guangzhou. Other than that, meh I don't care for Chinese cities of that great magnitude TBTH.

Born and raised in Chicagoland. Here's the rundown...

If you're young, White, and have a little money to spend, Chicago is a great place for you. There are not many entertainment options for people of color, unless you enjoy Irish pubs and rock music.

The sun doesn't shine much, and the overall vibe of the city is cold and impersonal. There are not many attractive Black women in Chicago, and other demographics are somewhat tribal so dating interracially is difficult. After the advent of social media, the dating scene in Chicago has become a barren wasteland.

If you're a Black man who's not into thug culture you may have to leave the city (or the country) to find good female companionship.

Some of things that I don't like about Chicago is:

-Winter weather, the decrepitude of streets and roads, and traffic. Chicago has some of the worst commute times for drivers in the US. Dramatic changes in weather from winter to summer, wreaks havoc with the roads.

-Politics.

-Losing sports teams.

-Taxes

I especially notice the dating scene in Chicagoland is absolutely horrible. Approaching within 20 feet of a woman can get a guy arrested or even (in most of Chicago proper) blasted to shreds by a flash mob. Guys better be financially capable of living in north suburban Kenilworth. For guys that like attractive women, in Chicagoland, even moderately to severely overweight women are taken. Only the biggest, fattest, most grotesquely morbidly obese (400 pounds and bigger, often with a 4 foot in diameter or wider girth) women are single, and they are single because their enormous, tremendous girth is an iron wall keeping men away, and in most areas, only women that are classified as supermorbidly obese are single. Again, their tremendous girth is an iron wall keeping the men away. And there is no hope of them ever losing weight because Chicagoland has long, cold, and brutal winters, unhealthy food, an enormous hood, and nothing to do but work and hang out at forest preserves, shopping malls, supermarkets, and greenhouses.

Hey the Chicagoland area when it comes to food so much so I had to get the fcuk out of there. Every time I move back to the Chicagoland area, I gain 30-50 lbs automatically....GMO dough in the Mexican panaderias.....deep fried chicken with spicy rice at some Chinese restaurants.......it's the world HQ of McDonald's so go figure!!!! Their food is too rich.. it's one of the worst places in America to live if you have a slow metabolism or don't work out much, the latter I became guilty of due to life stresses which I got under control for long while now.

GMO cities of the USA (all of them really but some are worst of the worst than others!):

- Chicagoland
- San Antonio, El Paso
- all Dairy Queens (even their non-desserts are toxic especially their fries are caked in lard fry)
- Oklahoma City (great times in 2015 but fattening tasty food)
- Alabama (I stayed in Homewood (Birmingham suburb) and had issues with Blacks there and the Whites only rolled with Whites there. I was left out in the cold..gained a lot of weight in three months from unhealthy food...I had to roll out of there...no size pun to myself. Got stood up twice by two White women, two Black women I dated were a.ssholes so I cut them loose.
- South Carolina - never lived there, but I had to loosen my belt just from passing through there for 2 days

Disclaimer: feel free to add on.

Every time I have the unfortunate opportunity to visit the U.S. of Gay, I avoid eating out in most cases because many restaurants (especially chain and fast-food) typically serve unhealthy addictive foods with GMOs. And instead I cook my meals most of the time; sometimes my dad will cook dinner. I also buy organic wherever feasible (there is a local organic store in Los Alamos, and both Smith's stores in my area sell organic food as well as conventional); there's even a Trader Joe's in Santa Fe, and thank goodness it's cheaper than Whole Foods. Heck, I cook most of the time when I'm abroad as well.

If anything I would say chances are that Dairy Queen fries (as well as fries at any of the fast food joints in the USA) are fried in vegetable oil, not lard. I say this because once Americans began buying low fat products and replaced animal fats with hydrogenated vegetable oil for cooking, the obesity epidemic started to take off, along with rates of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Food manufacturers removed the fat from their products and replaced it with sugar, particularly high fructose corn syrup. Realistically speaking, it is diets that are high in carbohydrates and low in fat that are the enemy, as well as GMOs. Starting towards the end of 2018, I've been on a diet high in animal fat, and I've lost weight. Heck, I even cook my food with lard, butter, or ghee, and I don't get overweight.
