Has COVID derailed the "Happier Abroad" dream?

With virtually every government on this planet happily embracing the COVID hoax as an excuse to assert total control over their populations (except for Mexico, Brazil and a handful of other nations), is the "Happier Abroad" lifestyle even possible anymore? I'm curious to hear from other members on this site, in particular the ones living abroad. Also very curious to hear from anyone that's traveled internationally since this COVID nonsense began last year.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I presume the OP is correct, which is why I want to go to Mexico while I still can.

I've been in Serbia and Albania the last eight months, two of the only European countries open to Americans. While the scamdemic hasn't completely put the kibosh on digging up foreign women, it has certainly provided some new obstacles.

Are you a budget traveler? Well, add $100-200 for the fraudulent covid tests to your expenses every time you fly from one country to another.

The available female pool is more limited, as you'll want to stay away from the neurotic freaks wearing face diapers outside. That includes a fair number of lookers, and even very young women, who, if there is some novel pathogen out there, might get the sniffles as a worst-case scenario if they did happen to pick it up. Inside -- a mall for example -- everyone will be wearing a diaper (less so in Albania), and your approach will have to proceed through that bizarre dynamic.

Like to work the bar scene? Better get business done quickly, because with 10 p.m. curfews in place you won't get anywhere near the girls-all-look-prettier-at-closing-time stage.

And this is in the more open countries. God knows how much the females have been spooked by the propaganda in the countries that have been more or less locked down for 15 months now. The "new normal" is that men and women don't have anything to do with each other. Especially in countries like the U.S., where the libido has long been under assault by a toxic food supply, feminism, etc., etc., there is the danger that this will become learned behavior and the new norm.

OK, so is the mask nonsense pretty much universal? We have been mostly spared that in NZ for reasons I have speculated on.

Yes, and that includes at least parts of Mexico. I saw a video about Puerto Vallarta recently, and everyone was wearing diapers outside.

But salvation ultimately may come from the U.S. federalism system. The national government can't lock everyone down, and several states, mostly in the South, have been to some degree rebelling against the scam. The media do their best to pretend that the "covid" outcomes of these states are worse than in fear states, but it just isn't washing.

It is still possible to be 'Happier Abroad', living away from your own country of origin.
However it is now more costly and time-consuming in case you like to travel internationally.

Airplanes are few, and often offer no cheap airfare anymore, on arrival you have to stay locked up in a hotel for 2 weeks at your own expenses,
medical attests and buying additional travel insurance are not a cheap issue at all, visafree travel is now often suspended and you have to apply in advance in consulates for visa permits and so on.

I have a second home in Thailand, but I am not going now, I am waiting it out. I don't know for how long, but life in Japan is not bad at all anyway.

I am from Europe, but living in Japan since decades - there is not much going on within Japan what I could call a restriction. I can go to everywhere and anytime by feet, motorcycle, car, train, domestic flights, ferries...all is operating more or less as always, but in some areas restaurants, coffee shops, shopping malls etc. close early but often offer take-out food or accept mail order for delivery...we can also visit family members or friends, regardless in which province they are living - and no face masks required while outdoors, but many Japanese do it nevertheless.

Covid-19 is not a hoax. It is real, but it is strongly exaggerated. Here in Japan we have today 35.029 acute infections out of 126 million people registered, and since February 2020 there are 13.871 confirmed deaths. However Japan has about 1.380.000 funerals per year, so these covid-19 deaths do not even change the death statistic at all.

About medical treatment, all Japanese have full health insurance and in case of fever etc. will quickly call for a medical doctor, also ambulance car service is free of charge. While vaccinations are starting now, only a few percent of the Japanese population is fully vaccinated.
In the province where I am living - Okayama, about 1.9 million people - only 578 patients are confirmed today with covid-19 and since February 2020 there are 115 deaths (less than 10 people per month) - how is this an emergency?

So it looks like we're pretty much limited to Mexico, then. Plus Romania, Albania, and a handful of other countries mostly in Latin America. Asia's mostly off limits now, and Eastern Europe is mostly inaccessible or very unappealing now. And our leaders had already ruined Russia\CIS with their sanctions and warmongering anyways.

Good thing I've been learning Spanish for the last few years. I really dig Latina women and have dated them in the US, and I love the food and enjoy the culture, too.

The Happier Abroad world just got a lot smaller. Look at the bright side: it's pretty easy to decide where to go now, at least for those of us in the US\Canada.

The world isn't going to be shut down forever, we are coming to the last leg of the lockdown, once the world has been vaccinated - in the next year - then the world will open up. I think the travel restrictions of facemasks, COVID tests etc will stay in place - no country wants unvaccinated people wandering around their countries which is how it started in the first place - flying was stressful enough before this bullshit but now... no-one is going to be flying for fun anymore - that's for sure - it will be a COVID test three days before an international flight, facemasks on the plane... it will be f***ing crap.

But the world will open up, it has to open up and it will have open up soon. As for Boxmans post, if you're learning Spanish and like Latinas then that's where you go! A no brainer!

I think the odds are better that people that had appointments to get the vaccine have limited days. Serial Numbers can be tailored to a registered individual. We don't know if yick had an appointment or not. Still, depopulation of the masses can be done either way but targeted elimination by serial number.

I am not sure about the date in Asia when it will be open again for easy international travel, but there are some positive signs about it.
Vaccinations are now going on everywhere in Japan, but also in Thailand.

https://japantoday.com/category/nationa ... ts-in-July
Japan plans to issue so-called vaccine passports from around mid- to late July as more activities around the world open up to people who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, the nation's top government spokesman said Thursday.

The government is asking other countries to exempt travelers carrying the documents that officially certify their vaccination status from quarantine or to shorten the quarantine period, government sources said earlier.
Also my major destination abroad, Thailand, shows some activities - tourist visa is now not so difficult to get for 60 days, but still some requirements like rather expensive quarantine is required - except for Phuket.

https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnew ... ent-360237
Under the ‘Phuket Sandbox’ project, the island is to pioneer the country’s reopening to foreign tourists, from July 1st, without a quarantine requirement.

Incoming tourists will be required to present proof of complete vaccination (two doses of vaccines other than the single-dose Johnson & Johnson) and stay on the island, at SHA+ certified hotels, for a specified period of time, before being allowed to travel elsewhere in the country.
Nothing is fixed yet for my place where is my second home - Pattaya, but there is some hope for change, too from 1st October on.

https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnew ... ays-359881
https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/tourism ... -obstacles
Pattaya has been working on its reopening plan, aiming to bring back international tourism in the fourth quarter of 2021. Officials have launched the “Pattaya, Move on” scheme which aims to open back up the popular tourist city in October, but the Public Health Ministry disagrees with their plan so far.

The goal is to reopen Pattaya without the need for any sort of quarantine for all international tourists that are fully vaccinated. It would allow these tourists to sidestep the current 14-day quarantine, and enjoy Pattaya freely. They would be limited to staying within the confines of the Bang Lamung and Sattahip district for the first week after they arrived.
