Do you think Anglos put a lot of weight on humor, sarcasm, banter and wit?

Hey guys,
This is another topic which I think its very misunderstood. Just like they are very into dogs. I think the Anglos have an obssesion with humor. For instance, to be an attractive guy you have to "master" wit and wit comebacks. It's very complex yet it seems that no one "calls it out."
My own theory: After the Norman Conquest, people got used to making fun of their "class superiors" hence they could only do it indirect cricitism. Add these to the whole Irish-English rivalry and it makes things even more complex. Where Irish writers would criticize the English treatment of Irish through sarcasm.
Hence, modern day American "dating culture" is very complex and everything has to be said "in-code." I saw a video of a dating coach in LA and she made it all very complicated.
