Here's a new writing prompt:
It should have a Old Western vibe but can be in any genre. @Mercer is in the Western and so is @Pixel--Dude. Including anyone else on the forum is optional.

DISCLAIMER: Despite having some of my recent life events in this story, it's purely fiction. I would never do what I write about in this story unless I was an actual Mafia Boss. Since I'm not a Mafia Boss, this is just a fantasy story and only a day dream of one possible thing that I might consider if I was a Mafia Boss.

Death of an Assistant Chef

It was a rainy winter day on a cloudy November morning on a street somewhere in Eastern Europe. Tsar, secretly the boss of the Tsar Crime Family, a rising star in the international criminal underworld, had been insulted by a lowly worm. The man was a mediocre restaurant worker and what he did was snort at Tsar.
Tsar would often take walks and no one would expect that Tsar was a mafia boss. Six Black SUVs with tainted windows and a luxury sedan with tinted windows pulled down the street when one of Tsar's informants alerted them to the man's arrival. The cars screeched to an abrupt stop. Groups of Mafiosi enforcers and goons stepped out of the SUVs with guns drawn. One of Tsar's henchmen had the most powerful baton and was beating the man.

The man fell to the ground and Tsar stepped out of his car. The lowly worm then saw Tsar's face and realized why this was happening to him. Tsar grabbed a taser and shocked the man until he passed out.
Bystanders were in shock because they were held at gunpoint. Tsar's enforcers had agents on the ground with cellphone jammers on every street block for a 3 kilometer radius. The security cameras and CCTV in the area had been destroyed the night before by low ranking petty criminals.
The lowly restaurant worker had his mouth, hands, and ankles bound, and tossed into the back of one of the SUVs. They sped off to the warehouse district.
At the warehouse, the man, awoke to find himself tied to a chair. He looked around afraid and nervous. Dozens of Mafiosi were in the warehouse.
Tsar was sitting in another chair and drinking a fine wine and having a gourmet Italian meal. He noticed his guest had finally awakened from his nap and said "You insulted me. You snorted at me for no reason, on multiple occasions. Why would you continuously disrespect and provoke someone you don't know? People could be dangerous and I am a very dangerous man. I don't look like I am dangerous but looks can be deceiving! You know what they say about the devil? The Lucifer in the Bible is said to be the most beautiful of all the angels but beneath that beauty is evil!"
The man was trembling and one of Tsar's enforcers ripped the tape from the man's mouth. He winced as it pulled at his slight mustache.
Tsar said "Tell me, why did you disrespect me?"
He muttered and stuttered "It was a mistake."

Tsar looked at one of his enforcers who used a baton on the man's arm. It was so forceful that everyone heard the bone break. The man screamed.
Tsar looked again, unphased by the torture of this human vermin who insulted him, and said "A mistake is something you do once and realize it was a mistake. I'll ask you again. Why did you disrespect me? Why did you snort at me?"
He looked at Tsar and was crying from the pain and burst out "I'm sorry. I thought you were a Muslim refugee or a gypsy."
Tsar got his own baton and said "You insulted me, personally, and while I am neither, I knew your intention. It's not okay to insult anyone with a deeply personal insult!"
Tsar whacked the man against his ribs and several broke in loud cracks. The man coughed up some blood.
The man looked at Tsar and said "Please! Stop! Please!" and was crying.
Tsar looked at one of his enforcers who was holding a hammer and requested it. Tsar bashed the man's hands and broke every bone in both. The man was screaming.
Tsar said "I could stop but I won't. You didn't stop disrespecting me. Be grateful that I am not having my men slaughter your entire family. I'm a just man and a fair man, but you hurt me deeply and you wounded my pride. You provoked this. You invited ill intent by choosing to insult someone like the fallen angel Lucifer. You targeted someone who looked weak and fragile, but they were strong and hardened. Now, the victimizer, you, had become the victim, by the one who you thought you could victimize."
The man was crying and pleading. He had a young child in the world and his wife was another low-wage worker. She would struggle and their child would lose a lot in life.
Tsar looked coldly into the man's eyes and said "I often give amnesty to people who disrespect me. That is, if they offer me friendship or respect, then I will offer them a blank slate. If someone offends me once and repents, then I will forgive them. But you, who doesn't even know me, chose to disrespect me and antagonize me. I don't forgive random strangers who target me or anyone. Sadly, your wife is going to become a widow, and your child will lose their father. They'll know you were killed when you don't return and you probably won't be found."
Tsar had one of his men use a sedative injection on the man. They awoke a mile off the coast of the harbor and then the man saw that his feet were in heavy concrete blocks. A mini crane on the ship had him dangling over the water. Tsar had a powerful laser capable of cutting rope in one hand and gun in the other. He said "Choose your death! Drowning or a bullet!"
The man said with despair and who resigned himself to his inescapable fate "Death by bullet."
Tsar smiled and laughed. Then all his men laughed. Tsar said "Did you really think I would offer you the option of choosing your death? A worm like you doesn't get a choice!"
Tsar shot the man in both his shoulders.
Tsar used the laser and it slowly burned away at the rope and then the concrete block crashed with a splash against the water below. The man quickly disappeared into the depths of the water. Drowning was a slow and primal way to die.
Now, the man who had wounded the pride of Mafia Boss Tsar by disrespect, was beneath the depths. He wouldn't be found for a long time. He would likely decompose and be eaten by sea creatures or bacteria. Such is the terrible fate of someone who wrongs Mafia Boss Tsar.
Tsar told his men "Remember, this is what happens to anyone who disrespects me without provocation! There is no mercy for the merciless! I'm a fair and just man! I often show more restraint but I was tired of this man. Know that I didn't kill him. The water did! He killed himself by choosing to set upon me! In life, one must sometimes kill to demonstrate authority and power. This world is harsh place and often cruel. I show mercy and I can forgive a lot. However, I do not forgive deep disrespect that hurts on a personal level. Remember! If you see anyone deeply disrespect me, then this is what will happen to anyone in the future."
The next morning, Tsar walked down the same street with a black umbrella while dressed in his suit, with two of his bodyguards with him this time. A cross and flowers and memorial altar with the dead man's picture had been placed on the scenes. A poster announcing a vigil for the man was going to be held. Tsar looked at his men and said "I'm a merciful man and a fair man. If I was a cruel man and ruthless, then I would have my men completely massacre everyone who attends his vigil. But I'm a merciful and fair man. Remember this."
They continued walking to continue their day. Tsar's driver pulled up and Tsar went into the back. One of his bodyguards took the umbrella.
Everyone, if they had any doubts, knew that Tsar was a cold and dangerous man. The world made him cold and he's known so much cruelty, that now Tsar had become a person capable of cruelty. Tsar was a noble and peaceful person but he would be extremely cruel to his worst enemies. If someone wants to make a move against Mafia Boss Tsar, they better kill him, because Tsar isn't a man to be trifled with.

Prompt: A Visitor.

MrMan receives a visitor from the future who is desperate for help with regard to morality.

It was an ordinary Sunday like any other. The morning congregation had gathered in prayer and had departed. Once they had left and the church was empty pastor @MrMan knelt at the alter in silent prayer to the Lord when a voice suddenly distracted him from his prayer.

"Father MrMan." A man in a white lab coat appeared in the centre isle. "My name is @Lucas88 and I am from the future."

MrMan laughed incredulously, once his initial shock had subsided. "The future? That's impossible." Yet in spite of himself MrMan was uncertain how this man Lucas88 could've entered the church without him hearing the sound of the large oak doors creaking open echoing throughout the church.

Lucas88 nodded. "Yes, father MrMan. I have come because we are in desperate need of help from a pastor of God. I don't expect you to take my word for it. I will take you into the future and return you here."

Before MrMan had chance to respond Lucas88 clicked his fingers and the two of them vanished from the church. In a desert their two forms shimmered and materialised into existence. The heat was oppressive, but MrMan was far too impressed to be bothered by the weather.

"Wow!" he exclaimed. "Where are we? When are we?"

"We're about 3500 years into the future." Lucas88 answered nonchalantly. "Roughly around the year 5520. In a place you know in your timeline as Texas."

MrMan couldn't believe what he was hearing. He scanned his surroundings and was shocked to see mostly desert and a few trees here and there and crudely built huts. "It seems really primitive...."

Lucas88 nodded grimly. "War, starvation and disease has rendered most of my timeline into a primitive state. This is why we called you here, pastor."

"For what? What can I do?"

"We embraced moral relativism long ago, but there are those of us who question whether that was a wise decision. Perhaps our moral relativism is what has lead us to these trying times. So we came back and retrieved you because we need someone who believes in moral absolutes."

MrMan felt honoured and smiled pompously. He knew this had been his purpose all along. A divine mission ordained by God himself to lead the future away from absolute moral decay. "Indeed, subjective morality is absolute foolishness! I would be happy to advise and guide you, in the name of the LAAWWWWWWD almighty!"

The stranger from the future smiled, the first time since the two had met. He seemed pleased that MrMan had arrived as divine intervention. "Very good. That is our dilemma." He gestures to a village in the distance where they could just make out some robed figures going about their business. Then he directs MrMan's attention to a distant hill where a band of marauders were gathering armed with swords and spears. "That group of marauders is going to attack the village and we are not sure whether it would be moral to intervene. When the marauders attack they will slaughter most of the people there. They're going to kill children and babies, they're going to plunder, pillage and rape! They will take some people as slaves and slaughter the rest before they burn the village to the ground." Lucas88's eyes burned into MrMan's with ferocious intensity. "Should we stop them, pastor? Or should we leave them to their fate?"

MrMan already knew the answer. With his index finger raised and his eyes closed he gave his answer with an air of pomposity. "A wise man once said: all that is necessary for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing."

"So we should stop them? Are you saying that would be the moral thing to do?"

He nodded with conviction. "Absolutely! There is a definite right and a definite wrong here! To allow this slaughter to happen would be against God and his very nature!"

Something about the grin that spread across Lucas88's face made MrMan feel uneasy. "Interesting..." he said. "So when we alter the time variable you passed the test." Lucas88 stroked his chin thoughtfully.

"Test? What test?"

"We adjust multiple variables to test your consistency. You see, you weren't the only person brought here. Your wife and children are also here and in the village. So your decision would determine their fate as well. We then reveal this fact to you and see how a personal stake affects your moral decision."

MrMan glanced uneasily at the village to see if he could make out his wife and children among the villagers who went about their business, blissfully unaware that imminent danger loomed just a few miles away. "Well you can see my answer is consistent! I made the right choice so now end this and send me and my family home!"

"Are you sure about that pastor? Are you sure there is no circumstance where it is moral to butcher this entire village?"

"Of course not!" MrMan almost shouted back indignantly. "You asked for my council and I have given it! Do not allow those marauders to slaughter that village!"

Lucas88's expression did not change. "So you changed your mind then... interesting."

"What...What do you mean?" MrMan asked, his anger giving way to uncertainty and fear.

"I'm a time traveller, pastor. I've asked for your opinion on this before. What happens now will not be based on your current council, but upon your previous council when you thought it was moral for these children and babies within that village to be slaughtered."

"What?! Why would I change my answer so drastically?!" The priest asked. Beads of sweat began to roll down his face as he became more nervous.

"Because I changed a key detail of the situation. We didn't actually travel 3500 years into the future, we traveled 3500 years into the past." Lucas88 explains with cold stoicism. He gestures at the village once again "Those people are the Midianites. Who you believed were slaughtered by the Israelites on God's command in the book of Numbers chapter 31. A command to kill every adult male and slaughter the children and kill non virgin women whilst taking virgin women and plunder for themselves..."

A battle cry sounded and the Israelites raised their swords and screamed Yahweh's name as they thundered across the desert towards the village of the Midianites. MrMan charged forward in a valiant attempt to block their path and protect his family from the slaughter. He stood in front of the charging horde and hastily muttered a prayer to God that he intervene and save his family. He grabbed his rosary beads and kissed them, expecting death. But the horde charged right through him.

Lucas88 casually walked to his side and watched as the Israelites entered the village. Screams followed as the slaughter began. "You cannot interfere. We are here as observers only."

MrMan sank to his knees sobbing uncontrollably. "Please stop this!"

"Don't you think this is moral? You are someone who justifies such a slaughter because it was commanded by God. Because the Midianites convinced some Israelites to worship other gods. You come from a time where there is freedom of religion, do you believe anyone who believes something different to you is immoral and should be slaughtered? The logic is the same logic terrorists use to justify their violence." He cast MrMan a derisive glare. "Do you believe the slaughter of these children is a gift to them because they go straight to heaven? That it isn't rape because the Israelites married their captive women? Do you think these women so freely desire to have sex with the men who slaughtered their families?! You want me to intervene now that it's before your very eyes! Now that it's your family! But when it was in your holy book you believed it was okay and made excuses for it!"

Lucas88 watched with disgust as thick plumes of black smoke began rising from the village. Blood curdling screams filled the air as the Israelites mercilessly butchered everyone in the village. "You should watch too MrMan. Watch the Israelites slaughter every child, including your own, knowing that you yourself have already justified such barbarity, all the while claiming to have the moral high ground, an objective moral standard rooted in God's nature! The disgust and horror that you feel right now is born of a moral direction that emerged not because of your religion, but in spite of it. I cannot stop what is happening here because it already happened. And don't worry, your family is safe. We cannot affect the past, but we can affect the future. So if we want to prevent a genocide from happening again in the future, then the first thing you should do is stop justifying it...."

THE END
