I went to Costa Rica in June 2021

Post by florida johny »

I went to Costa Rica in the end of June 2021. I had not been there in almost 2 years because of personal issues and the virus restrictions. I went to the Baldi Volcanic Springs Resort and enjoyed it. I also stayed in San Jose. I took a young woman that I had spent time with on my previous two trips to the springs. I had to take a covid test before I Flew back to the USA, Because of the new laws in the USA. I tested negative. The only restrictions Costa Rica has on traveling is that you have to get insurance that covers hospitalization and lodging caused by contracting Covid. 2 companies sell it down there. It does not cost a lot. There are links on the Costa Rica government web site. Once you buy it you can print out a bar code to take to the airport or put it on your phone. I printed it out just encase my phone failed to work. I have Verizon that has a plan that works overseas or at least in Central America.

I really enjoyed it. However a lot of businesses went out of business because of the lock down they went through. There was a cool bed and breakfast type hotel that I think was called the Don Carlos near the Hemingway in that is closed now. It was made out of an old style restored big house where they put roofs over some of the courtyards and had fountains and oil paintings and cool well done day-core and a nice restaurant and antiques in the lobby. Now it is vacant.

The hotel and Casino called the DEL Ray is shut down. I never liked it but it is bad to see people loose there jobs. The lady I was with was out of work a while and was stressed for a while that she came close to being homeless several times over the past year. She is now working part time at restaurant.

The restaurants are a little cheaper than in the USA in San Jose. You get more food for the money. It is not way cheaper though like I heard Thailand is. On the way to the springs the driver stopped at a place that had a scenic overlook on a mountain and a huge variety of food. (Italian Food, Sea food, Ribs , Pizza) It was very good and about 40% of what it would cost in the USA. Big quantity and quality. It was way out in the countryside. From San Jose to the Springs is about a 4 hour driver if you stop for lunch. The driver I used was recommended by a social worker I know who lives IN CR. I would not trust some cab driver I do not know to go way out there.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country. I lived there for a summer back in 2012. I found the landscapes and everything to be really beautiful. I had no problems with any of the people and a lot of people speak some english or pretty good in some cases. Easy to get around.

Sounds like you had a good time.

Yes I did. I have been there 6 times in about 6 years. If it were not for the virus and some medical issues I have I would have gone more. My health has improved.
If I can not get to Thailand this year I will try going to CR 1-2 times more this year. The first year I went I went back 6 months later. I work full time and only get 2 weeks of vacation a year. This year I have some extra vacation saved up. Since next year is my 5 th year I will get 3 weeks. Plus the plant is shut down fore almost a week every Christmas.
It is much more laid back from the USA. The second time I went as an experiment when I was in a mall I asked women I did not know for directions. They were much more laid back than in the USA.

The food is much fresher there I could tell. They literally have fruit growing everywhere like on the side of the road...its really crazy. Just beautiful landscapes plus the weather is not too bad for a tropical country. I went during the rainy season and it would be hot every morning and in the afternoon it would rain and then be just beautiful about 70-75degrees the rest of the day.

The women are much more accomodating there that is for sure. If you talk to them....they know why you are there and its no big deal....because it is a normal thing.

A lot of the smaller towns are pretty nice....I stayed out of the capital and I am glad as there is a lot of thievery supposedly. The beaches are really nice there too even though I hardly saw anyone on the beach there which was weird.

Costa Rica used to be okay but now I think it sucks (compared to Mexico).
