The US government insists on having perpetual "bogeymen" for the public to focus on and get obsessed about. That takes the focus off the crime and corruption occurring within the US government and Wall Street on a daily basis. What the government is doing is deflecting public anger, and the dictators of the ME do it all the time. They always talk about how "Al Qaeda" is a "decentralized organization". In reality, it's a bunch of disjointed sexually repressed Muslim dudes with nothing better to do, who get brainwashed into blaming others for their problems by charismatic local leaders.
