Recently I encountered a theory that the New Testament was not intended as a stand-alone document, but as an antidote to the scourge of Talmudic Judaism. Jews are taught to function as a racial Mafia organization, predating on everyone else, and were this evil cancer to spread it would cause humanity to fail as a species, so much of New Testament philosophy, while seeming a bit naive in and of itself, was set up to counter this. Makes sense I suppose.
