You are correct! Creating a portable income IS the way of the future. It is the ideal situation.Ghost wrote: I realize what the wave of the future is going to be: residual income. Online content or whatever else that you can monetize or a product you can sell online, writing ebooks and selling copies, etc. I want to one day make enough so that I don't have to be tied down to one place geographically.
The best link about this is a post by Phoenix Sosa:Ghost wrote: Writing - Now this is what is really up my alley. I love writing. And with the internet, one can self publish for no cost. It's a lot of work, but with the potential to make money, and it being something I love, it would be great for me. I have heard of people writing pamplets and technical information, etc., but I really would like to write books and stories. What is my potential for money here if I, for example, wrote one ebook a year, and let Amazon sell it? This is the thing I am most interested in.
Also, check out these sites:Ghost wrote: Please help with any advice or experiences you've had doing things online for residual income. I'm open to every suggestion, and want to know what chances I have being able to make a (somewhat) decent living at least out of this! I'm really excited about doing these things, just need some advice.

You might have to offer a substantial pay cut to make that option attractive. You're basically offering the same thing other companies are doing with programmers in India, which having your job shipped overseas, but with the programmer in India, they can get away with paying a lot less.Neptune wrote:Hi Ghost,Ghost wrote: Please help with any advice or experiences you've had doing things online for residual income. I'm a computer programmer. I first got a job building a database system for a company. I suggested to my manager that I would be able to do almost all of my work from home using log me in. I offered to take a pay cut in exchange for the ability to work from home so I wouldn't have to sit in traffic. He agreed to give it a try temporarily. I made sure to work very hard and not slack off. Although I was working at home, I made sure to treat the job the same as an office job. I even had a web cam set up so my boss could see that I wasn't slacking off and so I would be under pressure to keep my work quality up. So far, this arrangement has worked well.
Now I haven't told him yet that I will be moving overseas. I'm not quite sure that he will let me do so yet. However, I rarely come to the office and I have proven that I can be a dependable employee even working from home. So I think there is a good chance that, when I tell him I want to move overseas, he may let me.
I think that this is the best way to get online work. Just get a regular job, except one where most or almost all your work is done on a computer. Then prove to your boss that you can do all the work using log me in. That way, you will get an American level wage or salary while living in a country with a much lower cost of living.
Of course you can. Didn't you see in the blogger template, that you can easily integrate Adsense with just a few clicks? Go to the template layout and try to add something to the sidebars and you will see the function. It's set up to be easy and quick. Adsense will pay for banner views (CPM ads) and clicks (CPC ads). Other ad services that I use are:Ghost wrote:I have one more question if anyone knows. Is it allowed to monetize multiple blogs done through the same site? The blog I started recently was through blogger.com, and if I started, say, 10, can I monetize all of them? I know the workload would be huge, but I want to make some residual income that I actually notice.
You got the layout of the blog right. However, I wouldn't put the Amazon search box and context ad in the top right corner of the blog. That's a big mistake. First, Amazon blocks don't pay shit. They are CPA (cost per action) ads and only pay a tiny percentage of purchases made through there. It's hard to even make $10 from that. I tried it and it was totally pointless and generated nothing. I would suggest that you put the subscribe button in the top right corner followed by the blog archive links, and then right under that put an Adsense sidebar, either the 120 x 90 or 160 x 90 format. You already got two Adsense rectangle ads under two posts. That's good, putting it within the content. But you can only have three Adsense ads per page, so I'd put the third one as a sidebar on the right, under the subscribe button and archive links. That would be a much better format.Ghost wrote:You do have a good layout with your blog. I now have 3 blogger.com blogs, but am currently only updating one. I have decided not to continue with the first one I started since it is too general. One of the first things I've learned is be specific with a blog instead of general, and write about things that appear in the news to draw readers and traffic. I've already learned a lot, picking up lots of tips and tricks along the way. Always more to learn, but it's fun! I have also collected many sites by now for various ways to make some income online, including writing, surveys, etc. So once I start up these projects and find the right balance, it should just be a matter of persevering until it works.
(I've made 1 cent on my blog(s) so far, so I have a bit more persevering to go. )
The blog I am currently writing is http://www.darkageofmisandry.blogspot.com
(I think the layout may be too bland, but it appeals to me at least. If anyone wants to give me feedback, even if it's just to say it sucks, feel free. My ears are open. )
And thanks again all for all the tips!
Yes you can. The only problem is, if someone does a search for it on Google, it will bring up the version on the higher ranking site first. So if you post your article on another site that's higher ranked than yours, then it will show above the one on your site. That's why it's best to put a link to your site under the article, such as "To read more of my articles, go to: URL".Ghost wrote:One more question, if anyone knows. Is it allowed to post the same article on different websites? Like if I start writing for Squidoo, Hubpages, etc., can I post my same content on all of them? It would make sense as someone trying to make money from article writing, but I can see how there would be a conflict of interest.
