Running when it's cold out

I'm signed up for a 15 km race on February 7. The problem is that the forecast high temperature for that day is only 18 degrees. I really don't want to blow off this race because the entry fee is non-refundable. Any advice?

Running outdoors. Maybe something to protect your face from the cold, like a layer of grease- that way it doesn't block your breathing. A climate-controlled environment is going to cause an issue, since it's not the conditions you'll be exerting yourself in. Sure, it might do SOMETHING for your overall athleticism- but your body might not handle doing it in the cold without training in the cold.
The only thing I've heard about that is similar to working out to compensate for the weather is doing cardio for HOT weather.
