I have been to Moldova a few times, always Chisinau, though. They do have a folk subculture, probably still surviving in the countryside, which is a bit more patriarchal in nature. A song like this is for those village folk and the nostalgic who think they can turn back the clock from feminism and other form of progressive culture.

They are not like that at all, that being my entire point. It's a video from a cheesy folk song meant to stir up a bit of nostalgia of the old bygone years, when all girls in the farming community would dress up with traditional dresses and pay homage to their patriarchs. Moldova is indeed no different from Romania/Ukraine. I was there this past summer for 3 months. If you want "patriarchal" culture, Gypsies in Eastern Europe still have that to some extent: men sit around and drink and bark out orders, women work.
