I saw both of those movies on cable tv a few years ago, they were pretty cool.

Just found this psychological horror film by Roman Polanski, who directs and stars in it. It looks really good.

The Tenant (1976)

Synopsis
In Paris, the shy bureaucrat Trelkovsky rents an old apartment without bathroom where the previous tenant, the Egyptologist Simone Choule, committed suicide. The unfriendly concierge (Shelley Winters) and the tough landlord Mr. Zy establish stringent rules of behavior and Trelkovsky feels ridden by his neighbors. Meanwhile he visits Simone in the hospital and befriends her girlfriend Stella. After the death of Simone, Trelkovsky feels obsessed for her and believes his landlord and neighbors are plotting a scheme to force him to also commit suicide.

Wow check out this old spooky ghost story film I found while searching for another movie. It's from 1921 and is a hidden gem and made in Sweden. It's about a ghost carriage and ghost rider who collects souls. It's in black and white but that makes it spooky and eerie. No audio dialogue though, text and music only.

Here's a review of it by an enthusiastic horror fan.

Here's the full film on YouTube with English subtitles.

TV series about tall tales and legends. This episode is about the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It's a one hour version of the story made for TV. It's easy to follow and feels more natural than today's TV.

Wow I finally found a movie I was looking for since 1980 when I saw it as a kid at a movie theater that my kindergarten daycare center took me to. I've been wanting to find it because it scared the dickens out of me and struck me cold and pale afterwards. After the film my dad picked me up and took me to his company baseball game, but I could not pay attention to the game because I was still struck cold and pale to the soul and bone by the movie I had just seen. What's odd is that it's a Disney film so it's unusual for it to contain such a scary scene. What I remember in it was a really scary ghost in a flying carriage that snatched someone up. For years I thought the movie must have been "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" because that's the closest thing I could find to it with the headless horseman and all. But none of the scenes of any of the Sleepy Hollow movies matched what I remember. So that wasn't it. But I had no idea how to find it so I left the question hanging for years.

Today I finally Googled some details of what I remember and found a Reddit post where someone asked the same question. It was described as a flying banshee in a chariot or carriage.

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comment ... h_a_ghost/

Someone replied. Now finally I know the name of the film. It's called "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" and stars Sean Connery. Here are some images of the banshee that struck terror in me that I could not move for hours back in 1980. See the images at the links below. They are blocked from being embedded.

As you can see, such images would frighten a child. Unusual for a Disney film. It's something you remember for life because it makes such an impression on you.

Btw, I'm not the only one who remembers that banshee scene for life. Others say the same too. See below.

Memorable

I saw this movie on TV as a child, and the scenes of the banshee and the death coach scared and impressed me so much, I carried the memory of them all my life. When I was an adult and saw it on video, I was astonished to find that the scenes are STILL impressive and creepy! Considering how sophisticated special effects have become since 'Darby O'Gill' was made in 1959, that's quite a tribute to the moviemaking skills of the day. The scenery is lovely, the actors skilful and wholeheartedly into their work, the music catchy and delightful, and really there's nothing not to like in this movie. The duels between Darby and his nemesis, King Brian, are wonderfully funny, as each tries to outsmart the other. The village characters are all well-drawn and likeable personalities. Pony Sugrue seems more 'American' than the others, but then, he's not supposed really to fit in in the village, and his punishment at the end is an enjoyable comeuppance. Favourite scenes - the banshee and death coach at the end, as mentioned, and all the leprechauns dancing under the fairy mountain then riding their little white horses out into the night as Darby plays them a wild tune on his fiddle. Don't be put off by the date on this movie; it's as good now as the day it was made.
The Banshee. Oh, that Banshee. You've never seen a scarier Banshee on film and you never will.
The later scenes, with the death carriage and the banshees scared me silly as a child and are still quite creepy.
Here's the trailer. You can see the banshee in it.

Here are some clips of the banshee that scared me frozen and paralyzed me for hours. If you look in the comments section below the video, you will see that many people also say that was the SCARIEST thing they ever saw in their life on film! So I'm glad I'm not the only one. lol

That has to be one of the creepiest ghost ever. Even current ghost in movies aren't that creepy.

That's because they "knew how to do it" as it were, back in the 50's 60's and 70's (and 80's to a certain extent). :-D Unlike how unimaginative and outright "give it to you" they are these days! There's no psychological to it, which is why it's not as spooky as this older stuff.

@tall32guy You know, I recently thought about why the newer stuff seems worse than the old stuff in video games and movies. And I've come to the conclusion that the older ones are usually better because they are based off of the producer's/writer's real interactions with people and environments where as most newer content is merely based off of content that's already been produced.

Jamesbond, check this out. It looks interesting. It's a 1922 Swedish fictional documentary about witchcraft and its pagan roots and the Christian hysteria around it.

Haxan (1922)

Fictionalized documentary showing the evolution of witchcraft, from its pagan roots to its confusion with hysteria in modern Europe.
Director: Benjamin Christensen
Writer: Benjamin Christensen
Stars: Benjamin Christensen, Elisabeth Christensen, Maren Pedersen

Part 1
A scholarly dissertation on the appearances of demons and witches in primitive and medieval culture, a number of photographs of statuary, paintings, and woodcuts are used as demonstrative pieces. In addition, several large scale models are employed to demonstrate medieval concepts of the structure of the solar system and the commonly accepted depiction of Hell.

Part 2
A series of vignettes theatrically demonstrating medieval superstition and beliefs concerning witchcraft, including Satan (played by Christensen himself) tempting a sleeping woman away from her husband's bed and terrorizing a group of monks. Also shown is a woman purchasing a love potion from a supposed witch, and a sequence showing a supposed witch dreaming of flying through the air and attending a witches' gathering.

Part 3
A long narrative broken up into several parts; set in the Middle Ages, it concerns an old woman accused of witchcraft by a dying man's family. The narrative is used to demonstrate the treatment of suspected witches by the religious authorities of the time. The old woman, after being tortured, admits to heavy involvement in witchcraft, including detailed descriptions of a Witches' Sabbath, even going so far as to "name" other supposed witches, including two of the women in the dying man's household. Eventually, the dying man's wife is arrested as a witch when one of the clergymen accuses her of bewitching him.

Part 4
The final part of the film seeks to demonstrate how the superstitions of old are better understood now. Christensen seeks to make the claim that most who were accused of witchcraft were possibly mentally ill, and in modern times, such behavior is interpreted as a disease. His case revolves around vignettes about a somnambulist and a kleptomaniac, the implication being that these behaviors would have been thought of as demonically-influenced in medieval times whereas modern societies recognize them as psychological ailments. There is heavy irony, however, in the observation that the "temperate shower of the clinic" i.e. the treatment of "hysterical women" in a modern institution, has replaced medieval solutions such as burning at the stake.
