A tough and an expensive experience for the guy involved but at his age he should know better than to marry a woman who's practically a stranger.
The most nauseating part of this unfortunate incident is that the Police failed to press charges against her, despite the evidence. Instead, the incompetent cowards sweep the whole episode under the carpet to save their own blushes.

If the motivation for not pressing charges was to kick her out of the country (which might be cheaper than feeding and housing her for 7 years), I could understand why they did not press charges. But it seems unlikely that that is the case.
