Studies have confirmed that "decent looks" currently means being in the top 10%. Of course there are other reasons that men get girlfriends, but the problem of only a minority getting them remains the same. Even if an individual man could stop being and incel, he would just be displacing someone else. This is a systemic problem, not a personal one.

Just because 3 or more single heterosexual college-educated women age 30 for every single heterosexual college-educated man age 30 in New York City, for example, doesn't mean anything if most of those women are fat and bitchy and not motivated to improve because they have no real need for a man in their life, and the only reason they join online dating sites is to boost their ego with likes, with no intention of ever really dating anyone seriously.
