I looked through a lot of this, interesting.

I had read that he and a friend got conned in Mexico City, were presented with a huge bill, he reused to pay. Apparently the crooks killed him instead of just beating him up, which is unusual. I figured he fought back bravely, causing them to escalalate their use of weapons.

Sounded like the kind of crap that happens when you don't stay vigilant. But no political assassination.

He was obviously a sacrifice, based on his age/status.
