Of course Leonard Nemoy was talented, for an actor that is. He played an emotionless (for the most part) character, and made Mr. Spock very interesting, one of the most iconic characters in history. Does anyone seriously think the Kirk character was better-acted than Spock's? He was the most interesting character on the show.
The 'live long and prosper' greeting is from Judaism. It is supposed to represent the letter shin, which you can recognize if you know the letter. It kind of looks a bit like a W. It's the first letter in Shaddai in El-Shaddhai and Shem in HaShem ('the name' which some Jews will use as a substitute for the name of God.) They do that in the synagogue and Spock peeked and saw it when he was a child. Presumably, the Aaronic priests were supposed to have done that when they said the priestly blessings over the people.
