"She also confirmed online posts that the killer had told the two he "hated Americans" before stabbing them with a one-meter long sword.

"The murderer said he hated Americans and asked whether my brother-in-law was an American. My brother-in-law replied that he is French and asked him not to hurt them. But the man stabbed them in the back when they walked past him," said Gu.

This sounds like a hate crime. The woman was probably stabbed because she was with a westerner.

Well...the story is really not that surprising. Asians are completely different from the pansy, politically-correct and emasculated Asian men from American or Western countries, and they're not afraid to say or do things that offend other foreigners.

Having said that, it was wrong for the Chinese man to do the stabbing. But, such cases are rare in Asia and pale in comparison to the hate crimes you see in Western countries, such as the knockout games in the States, or stabbings related to a minority dating a White women. So, remember that before reading this story.
