It means that, in their eyes, being handed money, and also getting stuff done with money, is effortless. The fact that you have to do actual, useful work just makes you even more of a loser. Being able to do useful tasks such as fix things won't redeem you. They can pay men to do that. Stereotypes are mental shortcuts, no more no less. The fact that we engage on a relatively free (unmoderated), fringe forum like this shouldn't make us feel special. Unless every one of our posts has the depth and the wisdom of a scholarly paper, we must assume that we are all a bunch of people who can only exercise so much mental effort when expressing their opinions or trying to give their insight on this or that topic.

We suffer from stereotypes yet we are not immune from them. The sad part of all this is that reasoning by stereotypes, by easy categories, sometimes dictated by the status quo narrative, sometimes by an equally fascinating alt-truth, we end up falling short of understanding the big picture of what really is going on.

I have said that stereotypes are mental shortcuts and that's true. It's also true, come to think of it, that stereotypes are those pre-crafted statements that make us feel comfortable about a particular life choice, or a particular thought system.

He might have changed his mind for all I know but, last time I checked, Winston was still utterly convinced that European men and women are the typical intellectual types who will never shun a deep conversation about philosophy, metaphisics and the Great Works of the Universe. Nothing can be further from the truth, especially if you have already heard the term Eurotrash. Most European people nowadays are under-educated and under-motivated to dig behind the surface of things, just like their US or Asian counterparts. We are bogged down in a life routine where, at best, we have to work hard to pay off our mortgages and hope we won't be laid off, or our wives won't wake up one day and remove themselves, our kids and half of our assets from our lives.

If you look at the way we Italians, or 99% of the Euro population, reacted to the daily castle of lies built around them with regard to "the pandemic" and the million draconian policies designed "to end it effectively and securely", you will conclude that there's not much of a difference between a US man or woman, and a Spanish man or woman, or Italian, or Polish, etc.

I think Winston's stereotypes about American society also largely apply to all of us around the world. HA has been built around an "escapist dream", a stereotype in itself, which postulates that we might still find a better, cheaper, frendlier place than the [insert home country] outside, possibly far away from [insert home country]. This place or places might have been identified with certain areas of Latin America or South East Asia, but these places come with massive cons and compromises.

I am, myself and admittingly so, one of the acolytes of the HA movement. I literally discovered HA by chance the day after a massive life problem blew me and my - until then - cosy life in London completely out of the f*cking planet. I needed an escapist dream and HA promptly provided me with one. I was a lonely college student back then. I was a social outcast in High school and a loner in University, so I belong in the fringe. Im only partially black, and I've always hated BHM. It's the most boring history of all history, and like the only people that gets mentioned the most are the usual overrated black people like MLK, Malcom X. You would think there was a Native American history month, but they don't get one either. If you told my mom that Jesus was black, despite she's black herself.
