How have you managed to cope all these years living in the states before your move to the Mexican state of El Paso? BTW, I mostly dislike Americans too. I was stopped by an officer late last night. I was the only one on the road. Got a ticket for nothing except to pay for that asshole's salary.fschmidt wrote:http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/ne ... m-20110327
A reminder of why I can't stand Americans.
This is despicable - but at least they are likely to be punished for it (and possibly hung). Some of the soldiers were also abusing drugs, so they were malcontents to begin with - although American society is becoming ever more dysfunctional, the average American does not abuse drugs.fschmidt wrote:http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/ne ... m-20110327

This is not typical behavior for American soldiers. The attitude is not American. The vast majority of Americans would be horrified by this. As a nation, we are simply too liberal/PC to find this behavior acceptable. Typical for shallow assholes maybe but these kind of assholes exist everywhere. It is much more prevalent in cultures where there is simply more "elitism". These kind of people believe that they are simply superior or better than others and tend to dehumanize certain subsets of humanity....fschmidt wrote:keius, I think you are missing the point. Watch the videos. The attitude is so American. Killing people for fun. Typical of shallow assholes. I know that there are accidents in war. Sometimes there are atrocities caused by hatred of the other side. But the attitude in these videos is distinctly American and reminds me of why I can't live around Americans.
Yeah, that's what Shakespeare meant by "unleashing the dogs of war." Sociopaths, bumbling incompetents and the like are in their element in a combat theater, and every country has them. But what country is involved in almost every war that takes place now? What country spends as much on weaponry as the rest of the world combined, and has built its economy around a sort of "military Keynesianism" that requires the annual funneling of hundreds of billions to "defense" contractors? What country glorifies the military, to the degree of making nationalist and militarist displays at all of its athletic events? Let me know if you don't know the answer.keius wrote:You think it's only Americans? Really? It's always big news when it happens with Americans because America harps on human rights way too much....often using it as an excuse to engage in conflict.
FYI, this kind of shit happens in any conflict, and from every side.
Unfortunately, no military can micromanage every little thing that goes on in a warzone.
I'm already expecting some news out of Libya that we Americans accidentally bombed a hospital or something...could be made up or real...but it's part and parcel of war.
Yes, but unless heavy military spending is required to commit atrocities, I don't see how this is relevant.gsjackson wrote:Yeah, that's what Shakespeare meant by "unleashing the dogs of war."
