Less than a year ago, an old YouTube channel was discovered that was said to belong to Adam Lanza, the shooter of the Sandy Hook massacre (yes, that one Alex Jones famously claims never happened). YouTube almost immediately took down the channel and all videos and comments on it, but some people downloaded the videos, copied comments and wrote down a transcript that, compiled together, makes up Lanza's final manifesto to the world.

So what did happen and why? I know Alex Jones denies it took place and was taken to the cleaners for it, but what's your take?

It seems a bunch of entertainment industry people came together and pitched the idea of staging an event to get support for a raft of political and business issues. Gun restrictions, security systems, that sort of thing. This is a perfectly legal and normal way of doing business under the Smith-Mundt Act. Passed in 1948, this act allows the US government to stage events for political purposes overseas and was amended in 2012 to allow such activities in the US. Probably a lot of news events are now fake.
