Can I buy a brand new laptop without the preloaded OS - in this case Windows 8.1. I have my own windows 7 or I may want to put Linux or whatever on it. Basically I want to save money on unwanted software to spend on better hardware.
I am looking at Lenovo Yoga 2 - apparently it kicks ass!

It can be done, but there are hoops and the savings is not all that much.
The vendors are paid to preload the O/S, so you're up against that.
Check online sellers. I think all the box-store machines come preloaded.
