How do I protect files with Optimizemember?

To anyone who knows about optimizemember, how do I protect files?
My files are in the optimizemember-files folder on cpanel, but when I try to use the Membership Files Download element, it doesn't work. I'm not 100% sure how to construct the url of a file from that folder, but I've tried many different ways and nothing works.
How do I do it?
