How to block YouTube ads with a browser extension - Any of you find them annoying too?

Post by Winston »

Do any of you find YouTube ads to be really annoying and distracting? Especially if they contain loud noises and voices and disturbing images? They annoy me to no end. And come up way too often. A constant annoyance, especially if you are immersed in a video. Here are browser extensions that block YouTube ads.

If you truly hate the ads you could also pay for YouTube Premium which disables the ads: https://www.youtube.com/premium

You could but then you'd be giving your money to an organization that censors free speech and has a monopoly over the internet search industry, which is not good.

The ad blocker extension for your browser is free on the other hand.

Since Google owns Chrome and YouTube, I'm surprised they allow such a Chrome extension to be legal. If everyone used it wouldn't Google lose a lot of money?

Those ads on Youtube are so annoying, especially when they keep me waiting and waiting all day long. I constantly refresh until I get an ad that lets me skip it in 5 seconds. And yet it's annoying when they keep giving me another unskippable ad. It is especially most annoying when, every time I refresh to get either a video or an ad that lets me skip in 5 seconds, it gives me the same ad, the same ad, the same ad, repeating with every single refresh. Like I can hear Youtube saying in a boot camp drill instructor's voice; "Watch the ad, or you will not be allowed to watch your video!" Like the only thing worse is if technology is developed that detects eye contact and will pause the ad if you divert your gaze and until it detects eye contact again. Like in other words, they could pause the ad for 100 years until eye contact is detected and you'd never get to watch your video, ever in your life.

Try the extension traveller. It works and blocks the ads. However sometimes after the block the video goes to the end so u can to click the replay button. Small price to pay for avoiding the annoying ads. I dont mind an occasional ad but YouTube has way way too much ads now. They are often loud and feature annoying characters that are unlikable. If the ads were quiet and pleasant i may tolerate them. But some contain loud annoying actors who scream at you or ask you stupid questions. Some ads also show you grotesque images of starving children to get your donations. I reported those. They are an infringement on my viewing space using gross scenes to shock me.

If you're ok with using Firefox, the uBlock extension works very well.

I just installed the Brave browser and so far so good.

YouTube now has these nasty little banner ads within the video. Brave both disables the video and banner ads.

How does brave do that? Do you have to set it to? If do which settings do you tweak?

If any of you are using Opera, which has a built in ad blocker, you may notice that it doesn't block YouTube ads. However, it has some free extensions that do just that. Here are the links to install them into your Opera browser.

I find also these ads very annoying. I usually download youtube videos straight into my computer and watch them later - playback from my harddisc.
