Google Chrome Operating System?

Post by Winston »

I heard about Google chrome operating system.
It will officially be released in the second half of the 2010.
It's a open source operating system that has many features just like Windows.
The search giant Google is once again ready to take on Microsoft with its new operating system.

If you need a light weight OS, you can try Puppy Linux today:

Microsoft is good at getting people to pay to beta-test their products.
Apple is good at building a cult around their products.
Linux is good at being a freebie product for people to try and abandon.
Google Chrome OS? We'll see. haha.

GOOGLE SHOWS OFF CHROME

MENLO PARK, CALIF., NOV. 20 (UPI) – U.S. Internet
behemoth Google has showed off for the first time the
Chrome operating system it intends to d ebut in late 2010.
Google product manager Sundar Pichai said a key
advantage of Chrome OS, which will bypass computer
hard drives, will be how fast it allows computers to get
onto the Internet, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In a demonstration at the company’s Menlo Park,
Calif., headquarters, Pichai showed how it takes less
than 10 seconds for a computer to get fully online after
rebooting.
Comparing it to turning on a television, he said: “You
turn it on, and you should be on the Web.
Initially, it will be available only for small netbook
computers using solid-state drives. Eventually, though, it
could challenge Microsoft and Apple.
Pichai said Chrome aims to be simple for users when
it comes to e-mail, games, playing music and videos,
reading e-books and other tasks.
“We just want computers to be delightful and work,
he said.
As of Thursday, Google is making the system’s computer
code public so software d evelopers can start making
applications that work on Chrome, the Times said.

Linux has a few faults;

1) It has a tiny installed app base. People need to be able to run all their business programs and you just cannot on linux, even SUSE, Red Hat or Ubuntu. People need to be able to use yahoo messenger with voice, not something "just as good". They need to be able to load QuickBooks on their linux distro.
2) The security of Linux comes at a price of time and incompatibility so that the time saved is spent on trying to get basic things to work that are automatic in Mac and Windows. 99% of people would rather have an insecure OS with anti-spyware than spend a weekend finding a driver and wrapper for their wireless card on their perfect secure system.
3) Linux is basically designed as a secure OS type GUI for tech heads and sysadmins to be able to boot up on their servers and have basic barebones functionality. They are not intended to replace Windows and the teenage cult aspect of it wherein they don't want you there is guaranteed to keep others away.
4) Linux fans really do not understand how the world works and are oblivious to marketing and business and customer service.
