I've got no problem with duly registered rental cops that are under the supervision and discipline of regular cops. Nor would I have a problem with even volunteer cops (also under such supervision) allowed to carry. Such folks would wear a uniform & badge, and as far as any potential perp, they would be cops (these folks would also have a body cam, etc.). And these folks could carry, since they are cops.

Of course, the fact that we don't see such volunteer cops is because the police know that some folks (like Zimmerman) would take the attitude that his badge would allow him to act outside the regular bounds of a cop. This is why police only align with neighborhood watch folks that agree to not carry.
