Why can't Americans eat out affordably?

Post by newlife »

In most of Asia, you can go out to these food courts and get a nice portion of food for $1-2 all in air conditioned comfort. Why can't they have that in America? Even in Singapore they have them. So why when in America am I forced to visit restaurants which charge $10-$15 just for a place of food?! Not only that but I am forced to get into my car and drive to them. Can't do that in suburban America.

Not in all of Asia. In Japan food is very expensive. I guess it depends on the salary of people. In China, the average salary is maybe $200-300 a month. Hence the food is 10 times cheaper.

It's unrealistic to compare food court prices to sit-down dining restaurants.

At Costco food court, they can sell $1.50 hotdogs with drink because it's mostly self-serve. Sit-down restaurants have much higher overhead -- compare local labor costs.

Hmf. Since this is the rants sig, I just received my DMV renewal dues. The letter was postmarked July 6th, and the due date is July 8th. WTF?
