Any offensive post dug up on someone who holds the wrong opinions can mean that person no longer has access to social media, no longer has a job, and possibly even no longer has a bank account. This can be deployed on anyone, at any time, over any alleged political transgression or micro-aggression.

The internet, once a decentralized, unregulated bastion of free expression, has been weaponized into a highly centralized system in which over 95% of content must pass through the filters of a few giant corporations acting in tandem.

This highly effective censorship machine operates with the active encouragement of deep state bureaucrats and most members of Congress, who are prohibited by the Constitution from abridging free speech directly themselves.

The explicit promise of free speech by the likes of Twitter, in its early days, was the Bait to acquire enough users to attain effective monopoly status. Then the Switch came.

I was reading European news yesterday and even Angela Merkel is very unhappy that Twitter can ban a President. She doesn't have Twitter or social media of her own.

I think Trump should create his own social media company...

This is true, internet is dying - better to say, internet is full of censorship - getting overregulated.

Just read about a social media - datingsite in the US, I forgot the name, which is refusing to allow posting any picture of a female in a bikini or underwear, totally ridiculous.

All what you post on internet might disappear overnight. Maybe best you don't have accounts like twitter or facebook.
I don't use these social media, no facebook = no hassle, no twitter = no hassle etc.

It's not only about internet itself, but about laws/censorship in many countries - China for example is known for deleting just everything on Chinese local websites which does not fit the communist party line within a few hours.

Internet is useful only for non-controversial activities - like learning a foreign language, geography like google map, wikipedia to look up some historical topics, to send some email to friends, to listen to music on youtube...sometimes useful for shopping or managing your banking accounts - something like that....

The number of forums - like Happier Abroad - and members writing comments is also everywhere declining.

Yahoo has no comment section anymore, news agencies the same, like New York Times and its mirrors, like Japan Times - no comments possible any more - not like only one year ago... getting worse indeed.
