@Contrarian Expatriate
The CPAP forums recommend this software for your CPAP called Oscar. Do you know what it is? Do you use it? Is it necessary? Or is the software in your CPAP machine enough?

https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... stallation

Oscar supported machines:

http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... d_machines

Why Oscar is better than the pre-programmed software in your CPAP machine:

http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread ... #pid356989
How is it different than the software that comes pre-installed in the CPAP machine? Is it any better? If so in what way?

It goes into much more detail, you can think of it as being a Sleep Lab test every night without all the wires, and of course some of the data. OSCAR can drill down to examine each and every breathe that you took for the entire night if needed or just provide the summary overview. It's the details that make the big difference, that is how many of us can tell what is actually happening through the night.

Shouldn't the program in the CPAP machine be sufficient?

If all you want to do is what just get some kind of treatment yes. If you want yopur treatment to be optimized, no, you need the detail that OSCAR provides.
http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... ne_choices
Software
To get the best possible results from your machine it's necessary to see in detail what's happening during your sleep. Most major manufacturers have a simple web-based software which provides some basic data, such as the hours used and AHI. Examples are Resmed MyAir and Philips Respironics DreamMapper. Much more detailed data can be viewed using the manufacturer's professional software (eg Resmed ResScan and Philips Encore). Generally speaking these professional software packages are complex and difficult to use.

The preferred software is OSCAR (Open Source CPAP Analysis Reporter), which is a derivative of the SleeyHead program. This supports a wide range of machines, is relatively easy to use, and generates charts and tables to allow you to see exactly what happened on a breath-by-breath basis. We recommend machines that are supported by Oscar, as they will have the most complete support for user-friendly analytical software. Link to OSCAR Software

LOL. I hope mainstream Americans and people are able to understand and relate to me on this below, without getting offended or riled up. LOL

Actually, the notion of "martial law" is a bit refreshing.
Enough already of foreigners believing our streets are paved with gold,
---and dying to come over here for "their share" of the wealth.
I would still prefer living here, under quarantine, than there
under what they have been conditioned to believe is "normal".
Well I'm sure by now, most foreigners know that America is not "paved with gold". Word has gotten around long ago that America is not the paradise that people imagine. The problems are too great, the cost of living too high, the economy isn't doing well, and there's too much strife and crazy problems that don't make sense.

I'm glad you're comfortable in America. I imagine you have a nice cozy house or mansion. That's great. But comfort isn't all there is to life. Humans need social connection and social interaction too. At least I do, but not everyone cares about this kind of thing like I do. America is too isolating for me. Since 1985 people have become too closed off and mean spirited. I don't know how old you are, but those of us who remember the 1970's and early 1980's remember that America was not like that back then. It was much more sociable and open, without this "ice wall" between strangers that you see today, where people don't talk to each other unless its business related. In the 70's and before, one could simpy go out and meet people, like you see in the movies, it wasn't fiction like now, it was reality back then. If you aren't old enough to know, ask someone who is older who was around in the 1970's and prior, they will tell you what I mean if they are honest and aware and observant.

Today Americans have fewer friends than ever. Even government sites say that most Americans today have zero or one friend only. It used to be 4 or 5 in the 1980's. That's a big difference. This is something almost no one likes to talk about, because admitting that one is lonely has a loser stigma attached to it. So almost no one dares bring this topic up, instead everyone tries to deny or suppress it. It's simply taboo.

The thing is, in most foreign countries, people are more open to talking to strangers and meeting people and making new friends. Not all foreign countries of course, but in most of them this is true. So I never feel lonely or isolated or experience social anxiety when I'm abroad. With higher self esteeem and much less social anxiety, this means my mental health is a lot better overseas too. That's why I gotta live overseas. In the US I'm comfortable but I go insane from the isolation and loneliness there. I know this is a taboo topic, but I am very honest so I'm sorry if this offends anyone.

The thing is, anyone who travels a lot internationally, or has lived in multiple countries, knows what I mean, if they are honest and aware and observant and not afraid to be blunt that is. Even the travelers here on this forum know what I mean and will nod their head when reading this. But the thing is, it's kind of taboo to bring this up on internet forums. I don't know why, it shouldn't be of course, but it is for some reason. People tend to get upset and riled up if you talk about how people are friendlier and more social and open abroad outside of America. It touches a nerve with a lot of people, as if you've violated some unspoken rule if you talk about this. I have no idea why. But I've noticed this pattern. You get accused of generalizing and stereotyping, etc. But I'm merely being 100 percent honest about my experiences. I hope no one here is offended by this topic. If so, I don't mean to offend anyone, just sharing my honest experiences and feelings and observations.

Like I said, I'm sure those of you who have lived abroad in multiple countries, or traveled extensively, know what I mean. There is also a laid back down to earth feeling you get abroad that you don't get in America. For example, in Europe, Asia, Russia, etc I can go to a restaurant alone or see a movie alone and not feel like people are looking at me like a loser. The people abroad are too down to earth to judge you like that. But in America, I am afraid to go anywhere alone. If I do, I feel anxiety, because I know people are looking at me wondering why I'm alone, especially if I'm in a restaurant where I'm the only one alone, or movie theater, or nightclub, or carnival, or tourist area, etc. That's why no one does things alone unless its shopping or walking in the park. Because Americans, not just me, feel like losers if they go to a restaurant or movie alone. It feels awkward. So no one does it. But in other countries, you can do that and not feel weird or awkward, because foreigners don't judge you like that. You can also stay home on a Friday night and not feel like a loser too, in other countries, because people don't judge you in shallow ways like that. It's hard to explain. You gotta live abroad or grow up abroad to know what I mean.

Anyway, so that's why I live abroad - because my social life and mental health are much better overseas, which is very important to me. That's it in a nutshell. Hope you understand. Sorry for the lengthy explanation. I am a writer and tend to be long winded sometimes. Anyway, I hope you understand where I'm coming from. If not, I'm sure someone else here does at least. Either way, I just wanted to explain myself better to you all so you understand my situation better, even though this is non-CPAP related. lol

Wow there's an even cheaper travel CPAP machine now called the Apex XT Auto. It's half the price of the others. Here's what it looks like. See the videos of it below. Wow it looks very small, and it's half the price of the others too. What do you all think?

These are my four travel CPAP machine choices now:

https://shop.cpappal.com/en_us/product- ... 9975706be3

Btw, it looks like there is a 5th choice now. On the CPAP forums, I read that Resmed Airsense 10 For Her is highly recommended and better quality and more quiet and smooth than Travel CPAP devices. I took a look at it and it looks small and fairly portable, not too big or bulky. Here's what it looks like on YouTube.

What do you all think? Is that one better than the other four Travel CPAP's I listed above?

Some useful links.

Clinician Setup Menu Instructions for Common CPAP Machines:

https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
There is a lot of talk about how it's "illegal" for Sleep Apnea patients to adjust or change their own CPAP machine pressure settings; that only a licensed, certified or qualified technician, physician or clinician can do it.

First of all, I challenge anyone to show me any local, state or federal law that makes adjusting your own legally-obtained CPAP machine a crime, or even threatens punitive action for doing so. Go ahead, I double-dog dare ya. If you can show me such a law, I'll give you a one-year free membership on Apnea Board. Oh, wait... that's already free. Moving right along...

Yes, you must first have a prescription to obtain a CPAP machine - but after you OWN one, you are within your rights to do whatever you please with it, including using it as a leaf blower, running it over with the family car, or... (oh no!) - changing your own pressure settings.

Below is some excellent info regarding setting pressures on common CPAP machines.

Wow check this out. My dad showed me a new European invention out there for sleep apnea called iNAP. It looks a lot smaller and more portable than even a travel CPAP machine. It works by using a vacuum to suck your tongue upward and forward so it doesn't obstruct the breathing passageway in your throat. And it doesn't require a mask either. See the links, videos and graphics below. What do you all think? Is this just as good as CPAP or better? Will this replace CPAP someday? Is this the next step in evolution for sleep apnea devices? Have any of you tried iNAP before or know someone who has? If so, what did you think?

Wow check out this CPAP supplier. It seems to have the lowest prices I ever seen!

https://www.secondwindcpap.com

Has anyone ever seen that site? What's the catch? How do they afford to price their CPAP's so much less than other suppliers?

I think I will either go with Airsense 10 or the XT Auto Travel CPAP. See here:

https://www.secondwindcpap.com/Open_Box.html
https://www.secondwindcpap.com/APEX_XT_FIT.html

Btw, I see a lot of Airsense 10 devices on the page above. Are they all the same? Are they all Auto CPAP?

Also, what is a ClimateLine Air Tube that comes with some of the Airsense 10's? It looks like a special hose that can keep some humidity inside of it? How does that work?

@Contrarian Expatriate
Some good news for you. If you ever need another travel CPAP machine or replacement, I found a site with refurbished and used travel CPAPs starting at $260, with full warranty and return policy and all that too. It's called Second Wind CPAP store. Here's the link:

https://www.secondwindcpap.com/Used_CPAP.html
https://www.secondwindcpap.com/Open_Box.html

As you can see, they have the Z1 and Z2 Auto CPAP, which is about the same size of your Resmed AirMini, starting at $260 and up. They are used or refurbished and include full warranty. At that price, you have more peace of mind that should they get lost, they are replaceable. Z2 is the newer model by the way and costs more, but Z1 looks about the same and costs less, so I think the Z1 would be enough. These are the cheapest prices you will ever find online for CPAP machines. Nothing beats this. Wow. They also got new ones too, if you wanna pay a little more, and are still at much lower prices than the competitors.

Here are some more detailed info and specs on the Z2 Auto CPAP. All the reviewers of it on YouTube said it is a good machine.

https://www.secondwindcpap.com/z2-trave ... chine.html

Info on the Z1 model, which is older and cheaper, but still very small like the Z2. About the size of a Coke can.

https://www.secondwindcpap.com/Z1_CPAP.html

I think I will just get the Z1 Auto Travel CPAP from that Second Wind CPAP website above, because it's only $270. And if I need a bigger one for everyday home use, I can just get a second one later from that same site, such as the Airsense 10. At those prices, I can easily afford two.

And based on my research, most CPAP machines do get past Taiwan customs, so the odds are good that it will clear. So that's my plan for now.

Actually the Z2 Auto CPAP is better and quieter it seems. See the comparison chart here of the top travel CPAPs.

This Australian CPAP supplier and reviewer also recommends Z2 in this review below of the top travel CPAPs.

Wow the Second Wind CPAP store also has this oxygen concentrator product that pumps oxygen into you, to make sure you aren't oxygen deprived. Is this the same as hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy, that thing where injured athletes go into an oxygen chamber to heal their wounds and recover faster? Is it equivalent? If so, this could be very beneficial. I've been looking for something like this. But it's a thousand bucks though. Do you think it's worth it? Can it provide the same benefits that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can?

I've heard fantastic things about oxygen, such as that in the Old Testament Bible, people lived up to 900 years because the Earth had a lot more oxygen back then, and that's how dinosaurs were able to get so big, as well as plants and animals. Not sure if that's true, but it sounds fantastic if it is. Since there's so much we don't know about where we come from and our past, who knows, anything is possible I guess, and sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. :)

Update:

I've just ordered my Z2 Auto CPAP from SecondWindCPAP.com. The staff seem kind and helpful. However, I have one issue though. Their international shipping fee is a fixed $95. That seems like a lot. Furthermore, it's taking a long time, I thought Fedex or UPS (which they claim to use) comes very fast? Yet the tracking on the package says it will take 2 weeks. 2 weeks is definitely NOT express, so why did they call it that and charge me so much?

What I don't get though is that other companies that ship overseas usually charge around $20, like Amazon for instance. And iherb ships overseas to me for free, as long as my order is over $50, or $5 or $7 if my order is under $50. They use DHL too or a comparable service, and I get it in only 3 or 4 days.

So why is it necessary for them to charge $95? Is it just an excuse for them to pocket an extra hundred bucks? Why can't they do whatever Amazon or iherb or Ebay does? Even on Ebay, I sometimes get free shipping overseas, or else under $20. Never $95. Can any of you explain why? Do they have a legit reason to charge that much? And why is it taking more than a week to arrive too? Should I be concerned? Did I get overcharged? What do you think?

My angry letter to them:

"Hi Mark,
I don't understand something. It's been over a week and I haven't gotten it yet. I thought you used express mail with UPS or Fedex? Why would it take that long? The UPS tracking says it won't be here til 10/16? That's two weeks. How can express mail take that long? You could have just used standard post office shipping from USPS and it would arrive in less time than that, about 5 to 7 days. I know because I buy stuff from ebay all the time and I've used USPS to ship overseas from America too.

Also, if UPS express is so slow (two weeks is NOT express) then why charge me $95? There's no way that two weeks can be express! Come on. Impossible. And why did you say it cost you more than that? That doesn't make sense. Amazon ships overseas for $20 or $25, even if the package is heavier or bigger than mine (which is a small device). And iherb.com ships to me for FREE if my order is above $50 and uses DHL which arrives to me in 3 or 4 days. And ebay ships internationally to me for free or else something under $20 at least.

So why do you charge shipping fees that are MUCH higher than ebay, amazon and iherb.com? Is there a logical legit reason? It seems inexplicable, illogical and unnecessary. Do you have a logical or legit explanation? Or am I being way overcharged for shipping that takes 2 weeks and is slower than standard post office delivery?

Thanks,
Winston"
